Titans of Justice Unlimited #95 - “A Union of Green & Black Part 6”

Weeks had passed and Daniel Jordan was slowly recovering. He had been moved to a regular room at S.T.A.R. Labs and was able to receive visitors, although he tired easily. His mother sat with him.

“Dan, will you be ok? I need to stretch my legs.”





“Yes, mother. You don’t have to stay here you know. You and Dad are wearing yourselves out.”





“I won’t hear a word about it. We’re here as long as you are.” His mother smiled. She kissed his forehead and left the room.

Dan wondered if Didi had been found. No one would really tell him much about what had happened during the past weeks. All he knew was that he had been severely injured, along with Huntress, Dark Arrow, Black Vulcan—and that Sonic Boom was missing. He heard a knock at the door. It was the Flash.

“You up for a visitor?” The Flash smiled.





“Yes, I’m going crazy in here. Today’s the first day I’ve felt like myself.”

The two friends chatted and Sonic Boom’s name came up.

“Dan….I shouldn’t tell you. Let your parents….”

“No. No one will tell me much about anything. I’ve been on so much pain medication, I feel like I’ve slept non-stop these last few weeks. I’m strong enough now, even being told I may get out of here soon. What is the big secret about Didi?”

The Flash thought for a moment. He realized if he was in Green Lantern’s situation, he would want to know the truth. “Dan, you know about the clone, right?”

“Yes, I remember him. I was on my way home from a church retreat and he was in my apartment. He……” Dan paused. “He overcame me, kept me hostage….for weeks. Taunting me….keeping me in that freezer.”

“Dan, I don’t think we need to have this conversation.”

“Eric, tell me.” Green Lantern demanded grabbing the Flash’s arm.

“Ok. He impersonated you for weeks. He…he was just like you. We couldn’t know.”

“I know that. He even used my ring.”

“Yeah. Well, he….he proposed to Didi….there was a wedding…..”

“WHAT? Where’s Didi?? Is she ok?” Daniel Jordan said, panic overcoming him.

“We don’t know. Dan, we’re all working on it. We don’t know where she is.”

“I’ve got to get out of here! I’ve got to find her! And God help him if he’s harmed her!!” Dan said, ripping lines from his arms and trying to stand.

“Whoa! You aren’t going anywhere! Dan, please! You’re in no shape to try to find her! If she’s out there and still alive, she’s going to need you to be there for her!”

Illumina heard the ruckus and threw open the door. “What’s going on here?”





“Why didn’t you tell me? Let me out of here, Imako! I’ve got find Didi!”

Illumina glared at the Flash. “Fool. Why did you tell him? My patient is still recovering. He’s not ready for this.”

“No, he was being a good friend and not keeping things from me!” Green Lantern said, steadying himself.

Illumina moved fast, producing a syringe. She quickly injected Green Lantern and he became woozy.

“You won’t keep me here…you won’t…” he said as his eyelids shut. Illumina and the Flash got Green Lantern back into bed. She summoned a nurse to assist her with putting his lines and IV back in place.

“A word with you, Flash.” Illumina said angrily. “He is by no means ready for such a shock. He’s still recovering and it is crucial he doesn’t become agitated. Do you realize what damage you may have caused?”

“I didn’t mean…He asked me point blank! What the Hell was I supposed to do? Lie??”

“In this situation yes.” Her eyes narrowed. “Nurse, Mr. Jordan is to have no and I mean absolutely no visitors.”

“Yes ma’am.” The nurse replied.

Carol Jordan returned. “What’s happening? Where’s Dan?”

“Mrs. Jordan…I’m sorry.” Flash stammered.

“What? What??”

“Carol, Daniel knows what happened. I had to sedate him. It is very important we keep him calm. You may go in, Hal too. But no one else. Understood?”

“Yes!” Carol shouted, rushing into her son’s room.

“Flash, I’m sorry I laid into you. But you must understand, Green Lantern has been through hell. He nearly died. I have to get him well so he can deal with all that’s happened. If Sonic Boom is dead, he has to get strong enough to handle it.”

“I understand. I still believe he has the right to know, but I see where you’re coming from.” The Flash said. He was exiting the building and saw Dark Arrow with a therapist. His chest had been slashed and he was getting his strength back.

“Hi Dark Arrow.”

“Flash, what brings you here? My rehab is going great. I just got the all clear!”





“That’s good news. Any word on your sister?”

“None.” Dark Arrow said, looking down. “Lilith and Kid Comet are using their powers trying to locate her. Sargona has been casting spell after spell. IADC is on it too, but so far nothing. ”

“Don’t give up hope. She’s tough.”

IADC Headquarters…

Agent Mindy Trevor scoured over missing person reports and one caught her eye. Mindy had gone over what seemed like thousands of Jane Doe reports. Several of the Titans had investigated each lead, only to discover the women were not Didi. She summoned Lilith. Lilith’s ESP had been crucial in this case. Even though none of the Jane Doe’s so far were Didi, Lilith had been able to reunite several women with their loved ones.

“Lilith, this description fits Didi. Can you pick up any vibes?” Mindy asked.





“Hmmmm.” Lilith said, becoming quiet.





“Good morning---“ Apotheosis said.





“Shhh!” Mindy quieted him. “Lilith’s thinking.” She whispered.

Lilith stumbled back, her eyes popped open. “Tennessee. She’s in Tennessee. Alive….hospital….V…Vanderbilt.”

Apotheosis said, “Lilith are you sure?”

“Yes…positive…..she…she was in a medically induced coma….that’s why I couldn’t pick up on her thoughts!”

“I’ll call Dark Arrow right now!” Apotheosis said, reaching for his communicator.

“Good work Lilith!” Mindy smiled.

“Just doing my job.” The pretty redhead winked, turning on her heel down the hall.

Hours later, Oliver and Dinah Queen along with Robert flew into the Nashville airport and were driven to Vanderbilt hospital.

“She was found about a month ago in a wooded area miles from here. I’m surprised she’s alive. Mr and Mrs. Queen, her injuries were severe. She’s been through so much, but somehow she survived. Your daughter is tough. She’s expecting you.” The doctor smiled, gesturing towards her room.

“Didi!! Baby!!!” Dinah cried running to her daughter’s side.





Ollie cried and hugged his daughter. All 4 of the family hugged and cried for what seemed like hours.

After the reunion, the doctor joined them. “When we found Miss Queen, she was nearly dead. Her throat had been slashed and she was beaten very badly. We had to induce a coma for her to heal. She should be ready to go home soon. Is there a rehab hospital near you?”

“We’ll make sure she gets whatever care you require, doctor.” Ollie smiled. The doctor discussed the post hospital plans and left the room.





Didi started to speak, her voice was raspy. “Dan….what happened. Why did he do this to me?” Didi cried.





Her brother explained what had happened.

“You mean…..I married ….some mockery of him…..”

“Didi, you couldn’t have known. None of us did.” Rob replied, taking his sister’s hand.

“Where is Dan now? Is he…he’s not dead..is he?”

“No sweetheart. That other Green Lantern held him hostage for weeks. He’s going to be fine.” Dinah assured her daughter.

Didi started to get out of the bed. “I have to get to him, make sure he’s alright!” she said, her voice coarse.

“Back in bed young lady. There’ll be plenty of time for that later.” Ollie said, kissing her forehead.

The Hall of Justice…

“Even I’m surprised.” Blue Dolphin said to Black Vulcan. “Usually after plastic surgery, people look so…creepy. But, you look like nothing ever happened to you.”





“S.T.A.R. Labs do great work. I never thought they’d put my face back together after what that Green Lantern did to me. I still can’t believe how this all went down.” Black Vulcan said.





“Me neither.” Corporal Marvel replied. “At least the others are going to be ok. I just wish we knew what happened to Sonic Boom.”





“We aren’t giving up, Corporal. We’ll find her and bring her home. One way or the other.” The Huntress replied, her voice grim. Her wounds had healed as well, however she still worried about Dan and Didi.





Just then the monitor alert buzzed. Mindy Trevor’s face appeared from IADC headquarters.

“Good news! We found Didi! She’s alive and Dark Arrow and his parent are bringing her home!!!” Mindy said, happily.

Cheers erupted in the Hall. Mindy filled them in signed off.

“Thank God.” The Huntress smiled, relief in her voice.

Later at S.T.A.R…

Didi Queen walked down the hall to Daniel Jordan’s room. She was uneasy to see him at first. She still had fleeting images of…..the other Daniel Jordan….beating her…cutting her……She quickly put them out of her mind and composed herself. She could see into his room. He sat quietly staring out the window. She opened the door and their eyes met.

“Didi….it’s you….they told me…told me you were alive…and ok….I thought they were telling me to keep me calm….I’m not seeing things am I?”

“No…it’s me.” she cried and rushed to him. The two of them embraced and cried.

“I don’t want to let you go. Ever.” She sobbed.

The two of them continued embracing. Illumina smiled as she passed the room.

A few days later, Dan Jordan was discharged. Didi and Rob assisted as Hal and Carol Jordan wheeled their son to an awaiting car.

“Remember, nothing strenous, no stress.“ Illumina instructed. “And I’ll see you next week.”

“Don’t worry. He’ll be here.” Hal Jordan smiled.





Didi sat with Dan on the back seat. She took his hand and didn’t let go until they arrived at the Jordans’ condo. They had rented a home to be near S.T.A.R. until their son was given the all clear. Later that night, Dan and Didi sat outside, enjoying the night.

“It’s nice isn’t it?” she smiled.

“It is. I want to savor every moment. Every blessing.”

“We are blessed. Beyond blessed.”

“Didi, I can’t imagine being in this world without you.”

“I feel the same. I don’t ever want to go through anything like that again. Being apart, not knowing…..”

“Didi….will….you…do you want….”

“What?”

“Didi Queen, will you marry me?”

Didi was silent for a moment. “Yes. Yes! YES!!!!!! Yes, I will marry you!”

The next morning, the happy couple announced their plans to both sets of parents.

“But how we will pull this off. The world—the civilian world thinks you’re already married and then were terrorized on your honeymoon. The police are still asking questions about what happened.” Hal Jordan said.

Helena Wayne had been invited over as well and said, “Dan, Didi, and I have talked about that. My father has a way of dealing with the police. The investigation is closed, thanks to some well placed clues and the arrest of a serial killer in the area. We made it look as though the newlyweds were hostages of his.”

“But how will you get married?” Carol asked.

“Simple. I just got ordained on-line. Perfectly legal. I can perform the ceremony and all the paperwork is already submitted. The world will think the big wedding was the real deal. And we’ll have a small, simple ceremony in secret.” Rob smiled.

“Small and simple. I like that.” Didi said, taking Dan’s hand.

“Me too.” He kissed her cheek.

Days later on a small island on the outskirts of Paradise Island…

“This island will ensure your privacy. When you’re finished, simply call me and I’ll come get you.” Champion smiled at the Jordan and Queen family. She piloted her jet back to the main island.

The tiny island was tropical. The sea air carried all over and there were the most beautiful flowers and plants ever seen. Rob performed the marriage ceremony as Dan and Didi took their vows. Ollie, Dinah, Hal, and Carol all looked on, happy to share this day.

“I now pronounce you man and wife.” Rob said as Dan and Didi kissed. The entire family cheered the newlyweds.

That night, back in the states they all enjoyed dinner.

“A toast to brighter days.” Hal said, raising his glass.

“Here, here.” Ollie replied.

Later that night at a posh resort, Dan Jordan held his wife. He could feel her heart beat against his as she slept. He stroked her hair and held her close.

“Brighter days indeed.” He smiled, drifting off to sleep.

Epilogue…

“You ready?” Dark Arrow said to his sister.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.” Sonic Boom smiled. Since she had been released from the hospital, she had been working with a speech therapist as her vocal chords had been damaged when the evil Green Lantern attacked her. She had been scared to try her sonic cry, but Illumina had checked her out and said she should be fit. Dark Arrow has set up a series of glass structures to test his sister. Each sculpture was bigger than the last.

Sonic Boom opened her mouth, but hesitated.

“Sis…what is it?”

“I…what if I can’t do it anymore…” she said, her eyes darting.

“I’m here. You’ll do fine. Go for it.” He said, reassuringly.

Sonic Boom took a deep breath and released her cry. It was unsteady at first, but within seconds all the sculptures had been reduced to shards!

She let out a cheer and hugged her brother.
