An office building in New York City...
“Maybe I should rethink my major,” Sargona thought to herself privately. She was currently going to college for psychology and was interning as a therapist at a psychiatrist’s office on the upper west side of Manhattan.
The woman laying one the couch in front of her repeated her previous statement. “He asked me to put my fluid in a cup and make him drink it for being a bad boy.”
Sargona knew she could not feign not hearing the woman again so she had to come up with a politically correct response even though she wanted to tell this woman that her boyfriend was a complete freak. “And how did this make you feel, Miss Worthington?”
“I’m not sure,” replied the big-boned short-haired woman. “Part of me thought his request was disgusting and vile yet a part of me wanted to embrace my inner dominatrix, strap him to the bed and make him submit to me and so I did.”
“I.......see,” commented the daughter of Sargon The Sorcerer and Zatanna as she started to become sick to her stomach. “Well, I suggest you two have a long discussion about this and uh, let our office know if we can be of any more assistance. Just be advised that we’ll be very busy for the next several months and the soonest we can get you back in here is June of next year. I’ve really got to be going now. Do have a good day.” Sargona said as she raced out of the room and headed towards the ladies’ room. She immediately made her way into one of the stalls and vomited profusely. Once she was done, she wiped off her chin and thought to herself, “Why do they always send the total whack-jobs to the intern? I should have kept waiting tables at the Cheesecake Factory instead of this or maybe I should just follow in mommy-dearest’s footsteps and become a stage magician. I wonder what that wretched old witch is up to these days?” Sargona was still angry with her mother(along with her father) for keeping her parentage from her for several years. “Well, I’d better get moving. I’m supposed to meet Vince for dinner in thirty.” She then made her way up to the mirror and touch up her make-up a bit. She then brushed through her hair and made sure her part was completely straight. “OK, I’m good.” she said as she looked herself up and down one last time before making her way out the door en route to the subway station.
A short while later at the exquisite Serendipity restaurant in mid-town Manhattan, Sargona had met up with Power Guy in his civilian identity of Vince Starr for a late dinner.
“This place is very interesting,” Vince said, scanning his surroundings. “All of these different drinks and deserts are incredible but a thousand dollars for a sundae?” he asked with one eyebrow cocked.
“Oh, that’s the one with real gold in it,” advised the raven-haired beauty. “It’s used a lot of times when a guy proposes to a woman and don’t you worry about the prices here, this is MY treat.”
“I couldn’t possibly allow you to pay for my meal,” declined the leader of the Titans of Justice East.
“I INSIST!” replied Sargona, firmly. “I invited you here so I’d like to pick up the tab and if you don’t let me pay, I’ll put gum in Sonic Boom’s hair at our next meeting.”
“Hmph....looks like you’ve left me with no choice,” responded the Kryptonian powerhouse realizing the cat-fight he would have to break up if Sargona made good on her threat. “So what’s new with you?”
Sargona’s sassy attitude suddenly turned serious and a little bit sad. The man otherwise known as Power Guy could see it in her facial expression. “Esmeralda, what’s wrong?”
“I’ve just been thinking about my parents a lot lately,” began the sorceress. “I haven’t spoken to them since I found out that Zatanna was my mother. They’ve both tried to contact me several times since then but I’ve been ignoring them. I hate the deception they put me through all of these years but I want to have a family again. I really miss my father. We were so close up until the big blow-out with my mom.” She then paused for a few seconds, “I’m sorry to throw this all at you but you’re one of the few people I know that will give me some advice and not sugar-coat it or just tell me what you think I want to hear.”
“So you want to know what I think?” questioned the moder-age man of steel who didn’t wait for a response. “Look, I haven’t seen my parents since I was an infant. They died when Krypton blew up. All I know that even if I disagreed with something they did while trying to do what’s best for me, I would give up everything to have them back in my life again. Your mother and father must love you very much otherwise they wouldn’t have went to the lengths that they did to keep you safe from their enemies.”
“I know but all of those years I grew up without a mother...” reminded Sargona.
“You mean all of those years your mother was doing what she thought would keep you safe and protected,” pointed out the younger brother of Power Girl. “They obviously care about you a great deal. Why don’t you go to them and make amends before it’s too late and you lose one or both of them like I did?”
“You’re..........you’re right,” admitted Esmaralda. She then put her hand on her dining partner’s cheek and said, “Thanks Vince. I knew you would help me sort this all out. Before I leave, I want you to know how sorry I am for ruining our relationship. That was all me. I wasn’t over Dan yet and I should have waited to get involved with someone until I was.”
“Are you over him now?” the cousin of Superman asked, curiously.
“I.......think so,” Sargona answered, her serious facial expression changing into a soft smile.
“Then how would you like to give our relationship another try?” proposed the well-built protector of Metropolis.
“I would love to but is the distance going to be a problem with me living her in New York and you having just moved back to Metropolis?” questioned the fiery diva.
“Let’s see, I can fly and we have access to teleporters that can send us anywhere we want to go in the world. Something tells me that distance will be the least of our problems,” smirked the confident young man.
“Let’s do it then!” agreed Esmeralda. “This can be our first date........but I’m still picking up the check.”
“Alright, alright.......” concurred Vince. “I know you’ve got to run but how about we get together again Saturday night?”
“Eight o’clock works for me!” confirmed the ravishing beauty.
“Great! I’ll pick you up,” offered the Kryptonian powerhouse as Sargona kissed him good-bye in order to head to her father’s house.
***
About an hour later at the mansion of John Sargon...
Sargona made her way through the entry way of the lavish structure. “Daddy? It’s Essie,” she called out, the place unusually quiet. “Daddy? I’m sorry I haven’t called you back. Can we talk please?” she yelled, hoping to break the ice. There was no response. “DADDY?” she yelled, even louder. “Where could he be?” she asked herself. Both of his cars are in the garage.” She made her way through the main and upper levels of the house only to fine no-one there but herself. “The only place I haven’t check is the cellar downstairs. The only time he goes down there is when he wants a bottle of wine but if he went down there, he’s been down there an awful long time, still I’d better check before I leave.”
Moments later, Sargona made her way down to the wine-cellar, not very confident that she would find her father. The door to the cellar was open just a crack and she could see that the light was turned on. “Oh good!” she thought to herself, her hopes were up that her father was home. She began to pry the door open only to be stopped dead in her tracks by the sight before her. Both of her parents were chained to the wall with her mother gagged while a blue-skinned woman stood before them with nothing but trouble written all over her face. Sargona hid behind the door and kept quiet in hopes of learning what this strange woman was up to before she acted.
The woman began speaking, “Did you really think you could leave me to rot and die in that mystical prison you created for me, Sargon?”
“I didn’t want you to die in there. I simply wanted you to stay in there until you saw the error of your ways, Blue Lama,” replied the middle-aged Sargon.
“The Blue Lama!” Sargona thought to herself, alarmed. “She was my father’s greatest foe but he told me he vanquished her decades ago. Apparently, that didn’t do the trick!”
The mistress of black magic slapped Sargon across the face, “FOOL! I managed to escape and now that I finally have the Diamond of Death, I am unstoppable! My escape couldn’t have come at a better time as I had heard that you were killed in the Crisis On Infinite Earths and were dead for several years. Well your resurrection was in vein as I will be your undoing. First I will kill your pretty little bride here and then once the light in your eyes has dimmed, I will see to it that you take your last breath! Pity it seems that you have lost your ruby, I was hoping to test it against the diamond for amusement’s sake.” she said, raising her hands above her head and enacting a deadly spell.
Sargona quickly swung open the cellar door and announced, “Well, let’s not keep you waiting any longer,” she said, swiping her hand across a row of wine bottles causing them to take to the air and bombard the evil sorceress.
CRASH! CRASH! CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!
The bottles slammed into the Blue Lama knocking her off of her feet. “Who in the seventh hell are you?” she demanded, angrily. “Wait........you look a lot like Sargon from his younger days.........you must be his offspring!”
“Guilty as charged and proud of it so back off lady before I send this whole d**n house after you!” threatened the raven-haired heroine.
“SHUT UP and DIE!!!” screeched the Blue Lama as a black beam shot forth from her diamond only to be met by a crimson beam from Sargon’s ruby.
“d**n it,” though Sargoan, struggling to keep up the pressure of her beam. “She’s powerful. Maybe more powerful than any other mystic that I’ve faced not counting Mordru. I don’t know how long I can keep this up. Still, those are my parents she’s ready to kill so I can’t lose this one.”
The two beams kept pushing each other back and forth in a contest to overcome the other with the Blue Lama’s gaining a slight advantage over Sargona’s as time passed.
Sargona then noticed some wine had spilled underneath her opponent’s feet. She waisted no time in initiating one of her signature backwards spells, “eniw ezeerF! Ekam ym ymene llaf!”
“What did you say, harem” questioned the mistress of the black arts as she stepped forward thinking she was gaining an even bigger advantage thanks to Sargona tricking her into thinking her beam was finally overcoming the daughter of Sargon’s but once the Blue Lama put her foot down, she slipped on the frozen wine beneath her and fell on her backside, allowing Sargona to get a clear shot with her ruby, blasting the ages-old foe of Sargon with pure arcane energy, weakening her severely. The Blue Lama started thrashing around like a trapped animal, rays of eldrich force shooting form her hands like crazy.
“Oh no! She’s going to take the entire house down on us if she keeps this up!” Sargona thought to herself in a bit of a panic. “I’ve got to come up with something and fast.” She then raised her hands above her head and did something she had never done before. “Imoh-cigam enibmoc htiw eht ybur dna ekirts nwod ym oef!” With that, mystical energy from Sargona’s hands shot forth through the Ruby of Life on her chest and slammed into the Blue Lama. A whirlwind of crimson energy soon engulf the villainess of the dark arts and entombed her a giant replica of the ruby while putting her to sleep. Thanks to the combined gifts that Sargona had received from both of her parents, she had won this battle but just barely, still, she was proud of herself.
A few minutes later after she had released her parents from their bonds she asked them, “Are you two ok?”
“Yes, my daughter,” answered Sargon
“I’m fine too,” replied Zatanna, as she straightened her cloak a bit.
“I was so afraid she was going to kill you two,” confessed the the Titans of Justice’s resident sorceress supreme.
“And she would have if you had not come along,” assured Sargon.
“I’m so glad that you two are alright,” Sargona said as she hugged both of her parents at the same time. “I’m so sorry for how cold I’ve been towards you two. Can you find it in your hearts to forgive me?”
“There’s nothing to forgive, Esmeralda,” smiled Zatanna. “We shouldn’t have kept the truth from you.”
“I know you only did it to protect me,” admitted the current wielder of the Ruby of Life. “Can we start fresh? Be family for once?”
“Of course, my dear,” replied Sargon as he and Zatanna embraced their daughter, firmly. “From here on out, we will face any challenges that come our way together. No more secrets and no more lies.”
The End!
