I will never understand why you like Vision. Because he's a good character. And I really enjoyed their mini and their solo.

Damn, Jez, how do you manage to get every single darn hot cover. And welcome back Coldwater! Dealer's mates. If they have access to hot covers they let him know in advance and take some preorders (depending on how much they believe they have access to, and for less than what they go for on Ebay when the other available copies are listed for sale). Like this, he got hold of 2 (estimated print run is 1500 copies). I like Batman...love unique covers like this....

Did Jim Hammond and Johnny Storm team up in the Invaders/FF crossover that was supposed to happen this year? If so I need to get those two issues!

Oh good grief... all of the Axis crap is bleeding out into the individual titles now. I'm sure someone thought this was a great idea - "hey wouldn't it be, like, so really cool if, like, the heroes were all bad-ass and the villains were all, like, sort of heroes, but didn't know how to do it, right? Totally awesome!" Unfortunately, it's actually a bad idea, with truly godawful execution: Axis - continues to suck; new Iron man series - sucks; Captain America / Mighty Avengers - sucks Anyone looking to cut their Marvel pull-list has a major jumping off point. Contrariwise, non-Axis books: She-Hulk, continues to be pretty good (no wonder it's being cancelled! ), Captain Marvel - OK, but god help us the rhyming was appallingly bad, like the writer had never heard of meter Spider-Verse is another "hey, wouldn't this be cool" kind of idea which is really not working for me - so far, it's like a series of really crappy What If short stories; it needs to cut to the chase real soon.

I saw the word Axis plastered over some of the Marvel comics on the stands at the LCS today, the first I've heard of it. Is this their latest company "event"? What's it supposed to be about?
I bought the latest Modesty Blaise collection and the first trade of Gillen & McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine.
Speaking of Kieron Gillen, has anyone here looked at his other recent independent series, Über? I'm not too sure I like the look of the artwork or the premise, but Gillen's a good writer so I'm thinking of giving it a go anyway.

The premise of Axis is that the moral compass of some/many major heroes and villains are "spun on their axis" - good becomes evil / vice versa. It's a little more complex than that as it's supposedly just aspects of their characters that gets changed. So this week's Captain America is more like a selfish version of the Punisher than normal Captain America, rather than being an outright bad guy.
Personally, I think it's been abysmal so far, which is a shame as Remender has been a good writer on other stuff (X-Force, notably). I think Marvel are really overdoing the events at the moment - there's not even a gap between the events before the next one starts. It used to be (old codger mode on) that you could kinda sorta fit all the pieces together in the various series ("this story happens between panels 5 & 6 of page 39 of next January's edition of Captain Armorica - Ed"), but I can't see how that even works for just the Avengers books, never mind the rest of the MU. Remender's Uncanny Avengers time-hopping storyline has unwound so that's before all this Axis stuff, but all the incursion / Time Runs Out stuff in Avengers / New Avengers seems to be completely ignoring it.
On another tack, Uber is sort of OK, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere very fast. It's basically a "what if superhumans were around in WW2 and were used as WMDs" story, but every issue is a really quick read - lots of pages of extreme violence and not a lot of story.

Not quite new nut not all that old yet: re-reading the Guardians/X-Men recent team-up, I was really taken by Sara Pichelli's beautiful art. Brilliant artwork. The same goes for Sturat Immonen, who will always be that cool new penciller on Legion of Super-heroes to me (even if he's a well-established pro by now). Great stuff.
The script is a mix of things I associate with Brian Bendis' recent comics: very nice character moments, convincing emotional build-up, good dialog… but also distracting, let me, let me find the right word, distracting Bendis-isms and a very thin plot.
I think a slightly stronger editorial hand would do wonders for today's comics. When a Shi'ar officer deplores "typical biped humor", it might be worth mentioning to the writer that Shi'ar are bipeds too…

When he writes stuff like the smartest man on Earth referring to NYC as the biggest city in the planet, it takes me out of the story.

So Marvel just announced a new Guardians of the Glaxy team up series being launched by Bendis and Art Adams. That makes 6 Guardians based ongoing for Marvel now. Six*. More than Spidey. Almost as many as X-books. Say hello to your new cash cow Marvel.
*Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians 3000 Legendary Star Lord Rocket Raccoon Gamora Guardians Team-Up
Yeesh! Who would ever have thought GotG could support six monthly books...
