On Saga and the breastfeeding thing -- the U.S. has very weird attitudes about public breastfeeding, and I don't think it's just about the nudity or supposed sexualization of the breast. It seems like there's a "yuck" factor attached to it that even bothers other women. A few years ago, there was a big deal about Barbara Walters making negative comments about a women breastfeeding her child in the seat next to her on the plane. www.nytimes.com/2005/06/07/nyregion/07nurse.html?_r=0

Everything involving babies has a yuck factor in my opinion.
"Yuck, that baby is playing"

And yet, the U.S. has the world's biggest and most successful porn industry. You American's are just plain weird. I'm not weird. But maybe the big, "successful" porn industry comes from the fact that we ARE so heavily censored compared to other countries? I mean, duh. Oh, I wasn't suggesting for a moment that you were weird or even that Americans generally are (well, at least, no more weird than any other nationality is). I was just kidding and pointing out a cultural contradiction. I'm a Yankophile through and through though. I love America and Americans. But yeah, you almost certainly have something here: repression tends to breed indulgence in the very areas in which people are repressed. I think that's just human nature really.

Why is Stargirl surprised that Supergirl exists in JLU #2?

Why is Stargirl surprised that Supergirl exists in JLU #2? I didn't read that one (picked it up for the Legion storyline) but I thought it was more that she wasn't in Red Lantern gear? Read Axis yesterday and today... blah. Some pretty fight scenes, but really terrible story telling that had giant plot holes and really didn't even really hold together. I suspect Secret Wars will be more of the same.

Well did I start a discussion or what?
The interesting point is virtually no-one wanted to talk about what a great book Saga is.
Saga is a great book.
Heh.
Coldwater, I have a few suggestions for you based on your love of Rat Queens (I got the first trade along with the Saga hardcover), so based on the assumption you have been enjoying some really well written female characters and not just male fantasy figures I would like to know if you have tried...Saga (well duh!!! great chicks doing cool shit), Dungeons and Dragons, Legends of Baldurs Gate (up to issue 3, quite a cool female main character), or Rogues! The Cold Ship ( 2nd in a series of mini-series, the leads sidekick is an ass-kicking female who berates him constantly for his bad choices, wardrobe, or just general hygiene). They're all SF/Fantasy, then theres always Lazarus, Velvet, and the amazing Rachel Rising. Sorry, trying not to assume anything, your tastes may well be fairly standard, but I see Betty whenever I read your posts, and have wondered when Ive read these books.

I had no idea Supergirl was a Red Lantern. Anyway she shows up and Stargirl says "Supergirl...wait we have a Supergirl?" It read like maybe one of them was Earth-2, but nothing that I've seen supports that.

Made the mistake of looking at an issue of Marvel's new Invaders series the other day, only to be appalled at what they're doing to the Eternals now. Very similar to what DC is doing with the New Gods.

I have the first...5-7 issues or so (whatever comes in the first TPB) of Saga. I have read...2-3 of them, but I got so busy with work right after I started it, that I ran out of time to read it, and then I got distracted by other reads. I really want that hardcover, though, and I loved what I had read. I have not read those others you asked about. I am so new to comics, and there are just SO MANY THINGS!!! Igetsoexcitedanddistracted. I can hardly keep track of anything.
