Ei8ht Written by Rafael Albuquerque and Mike Johnson Penciled, Inked and Colored by Rafael Albuquerque Dark Horse Every so often sci-fi explodes in the comic world and this is one of those years as there are so many great sci-fi books being put out that it's hard to keep track of. One of the stand outs so far is Ei8ht by Rafael Albuquerque, I love his sketchy looking art and the colors he uses are fantastic and interestingly enough not only do their vibrant hues make the art pop but they are also a plot device as well as the colors are used to differentiate between the past, the present of the frame narrative, the future and the "Meld" which is the no mans land where most of the action takes place. The main character, Joshua, is launched into time on a mission that will somehow save his wife but it goes awry and he crashes in a place called the Meld which seems to be a place where time displaced people and things gather, like the dinosaur above, and we learn that time travel damages memory which is why we are in the dark about much of who Joshua is and what he is doing as he doesn't rightly know himself.
I love the art, and the concept is a lot of fun but as much as I've enjoyed the first two issues I'm not sure where its going. I'm locked in for the long hall but with so much in the air it could either be a train wreck or brilliant so it's definitely worth checking out even if it is weird.
