If you haven't noticed it yet, we've got a few new sections.
...And one of their primary focuses is the discussion of new comics.
<cue angry mob>
No, the CCF is not changing its focus. We are still primarily devoted to the discussion of classic comics, and these new sections have no intention of trying to compete with the kind of professional level content coming out of sites like CBR and Bleeding Cool. I highly doubt we're going to attract people to this community who solely want to discuss new comics; the community's identity will remain intact.
However, what's been missing since the move to this new location almost a year ago is an opportunity to discuss current comics and media beyond our classic comics focus. Many, many folks have told us the reason they don't come here more often is because they want a one-stop discussion forum where they can primarily talk classic comics but also discuss other comic-related topics that interest them. We've heard this most vocally from our friends from the old site who have not moved over here with us or have joined but not been heard from since.
So the intention is to provide opportunity for more well-rounded comic book discussion, but there's no doubt that what makes this community special, and what will continue to attract new members, is the quality of content, expertise, and discussion in our Classic Comics section. That remains the heart of this community, as well as its primary focus.
As with any experiment, we also recognize that there's risk involved in making this kind of change. I assure you all that, should this experiment not pan out as planned; should it prove a detriment to this community, I have no qualms with undoing it and returning to the way things were. But I don't think things will go that way.
For now, we have two brand new sub-communities, and I invite you all to make the most of them. If comic related media, collectibles, and/or new comics interest you, lend your voice and help to establish a culture and tone for these sections. We're also very open to feedback about these sections if you have any ideas, so feel free to offer your thoughts in this very thread.
Thanks, everyone! Let's make this great.

I think this makes perfect sense and I support the decision 100%.

Hey Shax, thanks for all the behind-the-scenes work as always. I think a new comics section was a warranted change. However, I will be honest in saying that I'm not the biggest fan of the extra layers of hierarchy in the forums. I don't know that we need as many subforums as we do, but even more than that, I think a flatter navigational hierarchy is more user-friendly. Just my two cents.

I think this will work out in a good way and I don't think theres a risk of the new comics overshadowing the old, since the classic board very much remains the main board.

I understand what you did...and why you did it. And overall I'm okay with it. It probably will take my discussion of new(ish) comics down to nil. There are just too many sub-forums to dig through. I kind of liked the omnibus New Comics thread.

I kind of liked the omnibus New Comics thread. There were advantages to having it all in one place, but there are advantages to spreading it out, too: 1. Easier to return to discussion that is more than a day old. 2. More replies to individual topics since they get their own threads. 3. Easier to focus on the companies/imprint you read and discuss them in greater detail 4. More participation from others since the sections are more visible/prominent 5. No weird redundancy between the Hall of Justice and the All Purpose New Comics Thread I hope the positives will outweigh the negatives for most.

It's okay with me I like both old and new and sometimes more old then new because of character changes not as good newer stories etc.

Oh, I think I get it now. Is the suggestion that the new sections should remain, but that the sub-sections should go? Sort of a "post anything that involves Marvel media, collectibles, and/or new comics in this area?"
That might be a little too all-encompassing.
Plus the HOJ is its own community; they are our guests and our partner, but we don't control their structure. It makes more sense to me to create sister sections that mirror their structure than to have the three sections organized differently.
It might just be that the sub-sections take some getting used to.

I like the current structure with the new sub-sections and I think it makes the most logical sense.

Too many sub forums. It's a hassle to navigate. New sections are fine. But having to click back and forth just to get to a particular discussion is cumbersome.

I also appreciate the new fora, but think it's a bit too much.
My preference would be one Modern Comics, but splitting it up in just 3 forums without the subfora would be fine: Marvel, DC and Small Publisher/Foreing
I'm afraid now discussions might get buried in subfora that less people check.

I can see your point. Essentially, though, I'm not sure what a better option would be. Here are the ones I can see: 1. Keep HOJ, Avengers Mansion, and Non-Big Two, but while HOJ retains its subforum structure, the other two are just open discussion areas. If you're right that the subforums are a put-off for some, than this will keep the HOJ insular and apart from the larger community, while we have a thriving Marvel and Indy section in contrast. Not sure that makes much sense. 2. Make HOJ, Avengers Mansion, and Non-Big Two each their own sections of the main forum page, with all of their subforums visible there just as Classic Comics General Discussion, The Convention Scene, and CCF Special Events are. But then the main forum page is utterly dominated by non-classic comics sections, which I think sends the wrong message. Plus it make the entire main forum page overwhelming to look at and navigate. Neither of these seem like a better solution than what we currently have, but I'm certainly open to other suggestions.
