If Nettles were on fire, I wouldn't waste the piss to put him out.
Zimmer, on the other hand, is a legend. Very sorry to see him go. You have to love Don Zimmer.

Who's ready to see the Spurs dethrone the Heat this time?
Who's ready for a Heat three-peat?
I'm with San Antonio this year.

If Nettles were on fire, I wouldn't waste the piss to put him out. Zimmer, on the other hand, is a legend. Very sorry to see him go. You have to love Don Zimmer. Right on both counts, though Zimmer's stubborn streak cost us the division in '78. Two words: Bobby Sprowl. With Bill lee, a Yankee-killer, unused in the Boston Massacre. Four more words: Butch Hobson's lousy elbow. With Brohamer sitting on the bench. Zim finally saw the light on that one, but it was too little too late.

I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but it's not like Pedro sought out Zimmer to "fling" him away. Zim rushed Pedro angrily, spewing some rather nasty obscenities about the intensity of Pedro's relationship with his mother. Pedro had to do something or Zimmer would have bowled him over. Pedro acted more like a matador, not a wrestler or boxer. Zim went down gently and later apologized tearfully about the way he acted. (Hardly as heinous as the execrable Graig Nettles, who, in the celebrated Sox-Yanks brawl in May of '76, jumped lee from behind, purposefully yanked his left (throwing) arm, slammed him to the ground, and then sat on his shoulder in an attempt to injure him. Lee was indeed injured and wouldn't pitch again for three months.) Zim got rightfully angry after Pedro was drilling Yankee batters a few times in that game.I believe Pedro hit 2 batters at that point and just brushed back another when Zim did his Hammerhead impersonation. As for Spaceman Lee, he was known for yapping loudly with insults both on and off the field. Also selling rookies bags of oregano for $50 an ounce.Nettles had to make his displeasure known in a calm but forceful way.Thats the kind of thing that made him a team captain later on Lee was a smartass who could pitch. Nettles was a wiseass who could hit. Lee had more brains in his little finger than any ten ballplayers had in their heads. Naturally Nettles wouldn't like him. Pedro had only hit one guy, the immortal Karim Garcia. He hadn't been headhunting. He pointed at his own head when Jorge Posada started yapping at him from the bench, which Jorge interpreted as meaning that Pedro was going to throw at his melon. The brawl started after Clemens gave Manny Ramirez a verse of chin music, and Manny, who usually didn't even know the score, suddenly charged the mound. That's when Zim charged out swinging at Pedro. It was a memorable kerfuffle as these things go. The year after, all things would be set right at last...

Cubs sweep the Mets at Wrigley for the first time in a decade.
Baby steps Cubbies, we still have the worst record in the National League.

If the Heat hadn't beat the Pacers last week, I don't think I would care a bit who wins the NBA Championship.
But as it is, GO SPURS!

Pat Riley is sitting the stands and thinking.
"Bah! The Garden was hotter than this!"
If Lebron is injured, ESPN will have more Breaking News coverage in the next 48 hours than CNN ever did with that lost plane.

My Giants are on a roll right now, up 8 1/2 games in the NL West with the best record in the league. Michael Morse has been a BEAST for us this year, with a lot of the other guys contributing when needed. It's still way early, but I'm really enjoying watching these guys play.

We're approaching Post Time at the Belmont Stakes and yet another attempt to win the Triple Crown. The first two years I watched the Triple Crown races they were swept by Seattle Slew and Affirmed. It hasn't happened since.

Sox Tigers on Sunday Night Baseball. Hoping Sox can break the 5 game snide, but it's going to be tough against the Tigers.

I need to look up the Joba Rules again. Is he allowed to pitch more than five pitches in a Sunday Night game?
