Paris, France…
Totem found a wheel chair in the theatre lobby. She also found Wonder Girl’s lasso and presented it to her.
“Thanks for the lasso, like it’s going to do me any good now, but what’re you doing with that wheelchair?” Wonder Girl asked.
“I’m not leaving you in here. We have to work together to get our stuff back from Star Sapphire.” Totem replied as she lifted the crippled girl.
“NO! Put me down! I don’t want anyone to see me this way…PLEASE!” Wonder Girl cried. “Especially…..especially not you.”
“What? That wacko has our stuff and is doing God knows what to Paris and that’s all you can think about?” Totem said.
“It’s just that…well, you’re so pretty. I’m….I’m nothing without my belt…I can’t even walk.”
“Listen to me, Troy. When we get out of this mess, we’re going to work on your confidence and your outlook on life.”
Totem pushed the girl through the panicked mob rushing down the Paris sidewalks. The girls were on their own since both of the Titans communicators had been damaged in the initial fight with Star Sapphire. Totem was feeling out of control without the tantu totem. She was fighting the urges she was picking up from the animals in the area. She wanted to lash out at everyone and the fear from every creature was overwhelming her.
“Look! Over at the Eiffel tower—there she is!” Wonder Girl shouted.
Totem glanced over to see Star Sapphire atop the famed tower screaming her head off. She was morphing into some type of bizarre mish mash of human and animal.
“HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!” she screamed ripping girders from the tower.
“Oh God! There’s people up there on an observation deck. We’ve got to help them.” Totem said as her voiced quivered. Her forehead was sweating and she seemed agitated.
“Rachel, what’s wrong with you?” Wonder Girl asked.
“It’s my powers. Without the totem, I’m like a crack addict with a limitless supply.”
Despite the mayhem going on around them, Wonder Girl felt a kinship with Totem. “She has to have that totem like I need my belt. Cripple or not, I’m going to help her.”
“No sense wasting time. I know what I have to do- - -and you’re coming with me!” Totem shouted as she lifted Wonder Girl into her arms.
The two heroines landed on a lower observation deck and could see Star Sapphire above them.
“Donna, I’m going after her. I’m going to give in to all of these urges….I can’t fight them off without the Tantu Totem. I’m going to need you to bring me back.”
“Me? I can’t do anything but sit here while you fight her! What am I supposed to do?”
“I trust you. You’ll know what to do….I promise.” Totem smiled and soared into the air.
Wonder Girl was very uneasy. She noticed Totem’s eyes were wild as she flew upward.
Totem had never felt anything quite like this before. To defeat Star Sapphire, she knew she had to give herself over to the animalistic side of her nature. She felt herself slipping away as she let a scream much like a jaguar and lifted her hands into the air. She was right above Star Sapphire and she dug her fingernails into the crazed woman’s back.
“IiIiIiiiIII’llLLLLLLLL KiLl you lITTTTle GIRL!!!” Star Sapphire said in what sounded like thousands of voices at once.
Totem growled at her so loud that even the crowd gathered below heard her.
Totem beat Star Sapphire with all her might, all the while trying to keep her mind from being overcome by her racing thoughts.
“If I can get the belt back to Wonder Girl, she can help me take King Kong here down. God help her if I don’t get the totem and she has to fight me.” Totem thought.
Blow after blow, punch after punch, Totem slowly was getting the better of Star Sapphire, all the while losing more and more of Rachel. Finally Star Sapphire plummeted to the ground and Totem was right on top of her.
CRASH!!!!!! Into the pavement the fighting duo plunged down into the water filled tunnels beneath Paris. Star Sapphire seemed to have a moment of clarity, perhaps from crashing into the icy water.
“Take this from me….it’s killing me…” she gasped weakly.
Totem strained to not rip the woman to shreds. “AGHHHHHH!!!!!” she screamed.
Star Sapphire’s moment of clarity passed as she kicked Totem in the abs, sending her flying upward, crashing back onto the street.
Wonder Girl had dragged herself down the tower steps. The girl was exhausted as all she had to move herself was her arms. She sat up next to street lamp to catch her breath.
She saw Totem whose frame seemed to be shaking. Star Sapphire levitated out of the hole in the street. She looked down at Totem, who leaped forward and started clawing. Both women were deadlocked in hand to hand combat, smashing into windows and storefronts.
Despite Totem’s fury, Star Sapphire was still stronger with the Tantu Totem, the Belt of Beauty enhancing her abilities, and the power of the Zamarons. She let loose with a deep purple blast that bathed Totem in its light. Totem screamed and fell to the ground.
“Athena help me! She’s killing her!” Wonder Girl gasped. She looked around her and there was nothing to throw, nothing to distract Star Sapphire.
“NnOOOOwWWWWW, mYyYYYYY DeeeeAr. I shalLLLLL SennNd yourrR missERAble headddd to GREenN LaNNterN as a trIIIIIbute! HAAAAAAAAAHaaa!” Star Sapphire laughed.
Just then, Wonder Girl noticed a manhole cover that had been dislodged from the fight.
“Artemis, guide my aim and Ares grant this girl strength! Let this miserable beast know she is fighting an Amazon!” Wonder Girl shouted as she tried to lift the manhole cover.
She strained and lifted with all of her might until she picked it up. Then, as if the Olympian Gods heard her plea, she tossed the cover directly at Star Sapphire’s head, knocking her out cold. “I…I did it!!! I did it—Donna! Not Wonder Girl! Alright!!!!!” the young girl clapped her hands.
Totem was still and not moving as Wonder Girl crawled towards the two unconscious women. She took her belt from Star Sapphire and wrapped it around her waist. Within seconds, she was once again the beautiful Wonder Girl she felt entitled to be.
“Ah, much better! Now for the Totem. It’s got to be here somewhere.”
Unknown to Wonder Girl, Totem was waking up and had totally given in to her savage side.
“TURN AROUND AND FACE ME, GIRL!” Totem snarled, saliva dripping from her mouth.
“This is one of those ‘oh sh*t moments Jerrica warned me about.” Wonder Girl thought as she quickly (and thankfully) eyed the Tantu Totem.
Totem was already charging at her and Wonder Girl stood her ground. Wonder Girl lifted herself into the air, out of Totem’s path. She then twirled her lasso, capturing Totem.
“Pl…please, help me, Donna….I’m almost g..gone!” Totem screamed.
“I got your back, friend.” Wonder Girl said as she wrapped the totem around Rachel’s waste, securing it’s band.
Totem shook for a few moments and her eyes rolled back into her head. Wonder Girl looked on, hoping the totem would snap her friend back into normalcy.
“Rachel! Rachel! Can you hear me? Oh Aphrodite, let her be ok!” Wonder Girl said biting her bottom lip.
Just then Totem’s eyes snapped open. “Wonder Girl?”
“Yeah?” she replied cautiously.
“I think for our next trip, we should stay in the good ol’ US of A.”
“Rachel!!!!” Wonder Girl exclaimed as she hugged her friend and both girls laughed.
EPILOGUE 1:
Scott Trevor was used to having heads turn when he walked into a room, but there was something about the attention of European women. He was very much in love with Jerrica Benton, but the adoration of the women in the lobby and the desk staff was still welcomed and enjoyed as he made his way to the elevator. He was quite handsome in his new suit he had custom made while on this business trip.
“I bet they’ve had it out while I was gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if Donna didn’t somehow manage to leave Rachel here and fly home.” He thought.
Scott entered the penthouse suite as he heard French rap music blaring from one of the rooms. He peered into the room and saw several shopping bags on the floor and tons of clothes spread out.
“Someone’s been shopping.” I knew Rachel would end up here on her own. At least she got to buy some cool stuff.”
He then saw the Donna and Rachel emerge from the kitchen, Tab colas in hand.
“Rachel, I nearly cried from laughing so hard when you told that guy ‘As a matter of fact, I am a model’. Did you see his face?”
“Well, you didn’t do so bad either when that guy challenged you to arm wrestling—and you won some money!”
“Hello girls. Everything ok?” Scott Trevor asked.
“Oh- - - hi Scott!” Rachel smiled.
“Everything’s fine. Why wouldn’t it be?” Donna Troy giggled.
“Looks like you two have become fast friends? Anything exciting happen while I was gone?” he asked with a puzzled look.
Rachel and Donna looked at each other and smiled.
“Oh nothing, just girl stuff.” Rachel giggled as Donna erupted into laughter.
EPILOGUE 2:
A few days later at the Hall of Justice…
Power Girl stood at the head of the meeting table with all of the team’s field leaders present. “I know this isn’t going to be easy especially with it being so soon after Atmosphere’s demise but we need to replace him on the leadership team.” He knew that having to give this kind of direction would spark an array of emotions within his teammates but on the flip-side as team’s superior officer, he had to be the one to carry this burden. “I’d like you all to take a few minutes and think about who would be a suitable replacement. When you’ve come to a decision, write down your choice on the piece of paper in front of you, and drop your vote in this bowl.”
As the seconds passed, many thoughts ran through the various Titans’ minds. Dark Arrow was more than confident that his sister Di Di deserved a spot on the leadership team. Green Lantern had noticed how well the Huntress had stepped up to the plate with starting up the Super Friends team. He admired her discipline and determination and felt she should take Atmosphere’s spot. Nucleus’ mind raced through all of the various people he worked with trying to come up with the most logical replacement for his fallen friend. He struggled as he contemplated voting between the Huntress, Argos, and Whirlpool. Wonder Man couldn’t help but want to vote for Jemstone. He felt that Jemstone had been overshadowed by some of the other Titans long enough and she was most deserving of the honor of becoming a field leader. Wonder Warrior and Queen Bee(who were sitting on opposite sides of the table) both came to the decision that Kid Comet would be a good choice to fill the leadership void. Some of the others at the table would take their time in picking their choice.
Finally after all of the votes had been cast, Power Guy began to read through them. “Ok, folks, here’s the break-down: The Huntress received one vote, Argos also received one vote, Kid Comet got two, and Sonic Boom took the prize with 5 votes! It looks like Di Di is our newest field leader,” smiled the man of might.
“YES!” Dark Arrow screamed with a sense of victory. “I can’t wait to go tell her the good news. You coming with me Danny boy?”
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world, buddy,” Green Lantern said as he and Dark Arrow left the room to go and find the newly christened Black Canary.
“I guess we’re done here,” Nightvision stated, seemingly in a hurry to leave.
“Great! Queen Bee and I need to get back to finishing up upgrading our security system,” advised Nucleus, sounding slightly annoyed from the meeting taking so long. With the Silencer gone, the added workload of maintaining the Hall’s security and computer systems rested on the tiny titan along with his bee-themed girlfriend.
“Before you two go, I need to have a word with Queen Bee,” Wonder Warrior said as he approached the two size-changing heroes.
As the rest of the heroes departed, Wonder Warrior wore a scowl on his face, “Dammit! I was really hoping Kid Comet would have made it into the leadership circle. It would have made things a lot easier on all of us.”
“Well, we knew the odds were against us in the voting. We’ll just have to come up with plan B,” suggested the daughter of Vox and Bumblebee.
“We don’t have much time,” Wonder Warrior said, sounding a bit worried.
“Well, we just might have to accept that we have to do this the hard way,” Queen Bee replied nonchalantly. “While none of us may like this option, we may not have any other choice if we’re going to succeed.”
“Agreed,” confirmed Wonder Warrior. “I guess I’ve got to start thinking more like an Amazon and suck it up.”
“You’re strong Chris. I know you won’t let us down,” Queen Bee said as she left to join Nucleus.
