Just saw the first episode of Boba Fett and I have to say it was pretty solid. I loved the Conan feel to it coupled with the spaghetti western style. And Boba fought a Green Martian! The wife and watched the first episode this evening after dinner. We both quite enjoyed it. She was horrified by that green Martian/centaur-like creature and told me in no uncertain terms I could not use it as the basis for a monster in our D&D games... I wonder what challenge rating I should make it... -M

Heh... he was pretty scary... like an much more evil version of a Martian. I thought it was a bit.. insubstantial. It went by SO fast...I think I could have done without the flashback sequences.... we've got that story enough in comics and books. (I think I might be in the minority there).

I agree 100%... if you just watch the show for what it is (an excellent Space-Western set in the Star Wars universe), It's great, but I don't think THIS version of Boba Fett matches the (granted, not very well developed) character of the movies.
I guess you could say the Tusken's saved him, but I agree the compassion seems out of place. That said, the show is very good (I mean, who doesn't love a great train robbery scene!), and I'll certainly be watching.

Waiting for the series to finish so I can binge-watch it over a few days or a week or so. I'm not used to waiting a week between episodes any more!

I don't know, silent gunslinger nursed back by the natives and adopting their ways to get his piece of the pie seems to fit pretty well to me.

I'm watching Empire Strikes back in 4K for the first time right now...and the picture is crazy clear. My memories of Hoth are pretty washed out and fuzzy...and that's just not old age talking:p but the colors here are vibrant and everything is crisp.

Boba Fett was such a nothing-burger in the original trilogy that it's hard to say what he should be like from those movies. Not being a big Star Wars fan I can't say anything beyond that. I've never read any of the EU stuff and I've blocked the prequels from my mind.

I had to search to find out what EU meant in this Star Wars context: Expanded Universe, if anyone else out there didn't know, and it includes anything beyond the films that was officially licensed - I suppose by whoever owns the rights or owned them at the time. I haven't read any of the books but I'm willing to give them a try one of these days, if I can find time. I'm n much the same boat with Star Trek - though in that case I did read a few books way back in the early 70s, between the original show and the first movie, and Ive recently started buying paperbacks when I see them cheap. Star Trek is confusing enough once you get past the original series, but with Star Wars I have no idea where to start with the books, so if I ever do decide to start checking out the EU books I'll likely be coming here for advice!
On Boba Fett, I think what Slam says is correct as far as it goes, but my feelings tend more to what Supercat says - and in stuff like this it's all about the feelings, your feelings as an individual viewer or reader. Been too long since I watched the movies to remember all the details, but my impression was definitely that there must be some deep background to this Boba Fett character - not that I think Lucas had it all drawn up at the time: quite possiby it was just a cool costume design that grabbed fan attention, aided by the hints left in the script and how his scenes ended up looking on screen.
As a fan who loved the three original movies when they came out, I would always have expected that whenever someone did get around to giving us some of that background in the form of a story, they would at the very least not do anything to undermine the strong impression the character made in his brief appearances. And, more hopefully, that they'd manage to come up with something that reinforced or even enhanced it, deepened it. That's what I'll be looking for when I watch the new tv show. If it doesn't happen, no loss - and no real surprise or disappointment, given the nature of the entertainment biz, with so many different people involved over so many years. But that doesn't mean I won't feel free to comment on why I thought this or that didn't work!

I've never read any of the EU stuff Oh, and Slam, if you've never read any of the EU stuff, you've led a sheltered life. I've read a lot of the EU stuff and, honestly, most of it isn't as entertaining as a good, dirty Tijuana Bible.

but I don't think THIS version of Boba Fett matches the (granted, not very well developed) character of the movies. ...because the character was never intended to be fleshed out. He was a "mystery man" who served one purpose: bring Han Solo to Jabba. Nothing more, nothing less. After that, every act of catering to the cult of Boba Fett that followed--from his appearance in the Droids cartoon, the nonsensical insertion in the Special Editions of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, to the Prequels (and all that was spawned from that), the cracks in this character, the forced development are all too apparent. Of any mistakes Lucas ever made when he owned the property, it was providing fan service regarding Boba Fett.

Of any mistakes Lucas ever made when he owned the property, it was providing fan service regarding Boba Fett. Agreed! He had a cool costume, became popular on account of the existence of his doll and grew to become a huge hit among fans, but he had no character development whatsoever in the films (nor in the Holiday special, although he actually got to do something in that one).
Which means he's basically a blank slate for the current owners of the IP. Much easier to handle than a character with 40+ years of Extended Universe backstory!
(Personally, I much prefer Mando to Boba Fett.)

I thought the the clone army and how it was tied to Boba Fett was actually a pretty great idea.
As for the latest episode I loved Danny Trejo as the new Rancor master. With Robert Rodriguez driving Boba Fett, Trejo was a done deal to be included but I wasn't expecting an actual reoccurring character which certainly seems to be the case.
The pacing continues to be slow, making it feel like we're watching a film split into half hour increments rather than an actual show but the story is still compelling enough so I'm still on board.
I will say that the car chase in this episode was about the only misstep I've seen so far, they've been really good filming against an almost completely digital back ground so far with out it coming across as looking fake...but that's what we got here. They just seemed to completely forget to use practical wind effects in filming this scene so you have this gang on speeder bikes some of them with long hair and flowy clothes...but none of it moves which robs the scene of any feeling of action. The scenery whizzes by convincingly, and they smash up all kinds of digital scenery as they careen around the crowded streets but because nobody shows the physical effects of moving it comes across as more of a slow speed car chase than the other effects would lead you to believe. It's such an odd blunder for an otherwise cutting edge, big budget show.
