Titans of Justice Unlimited Chapter 34 – “Bite The Bullet Part 1 “
Written & edited by: Power Guy
A prison transport jet, high above the country of Markovia...
“Man, this blows,” grumbled Bulletboy. “My first real mission with you guys and we’re stuck on guard-duty,”
“Dude, this isn’t just any guard-duty,” pointed out Powerstorm. “Belle Reve. asked us to transport Solomon Grundy and Shrapnel, who are two earth’s most powerful villains to the new Jaws of The Dragon facility in Japan.”
“It’s just taking so long to get there,” sighed the new best-friend of Stellar.
“Well, we couldn’t fly over the Pacific with that hurricane out there,” advised Atmosphere. “Besides, the European countryside below is like something you’ve never seen before.”
“Yes, it is quite breathtaking,” observed Lady Light. “I wonder what kind of fertilizer they use?”
Before anyone could comment on Lady Light’s question, a large rumbling sound came from the back of the plane.
“Ugh….they just won’t keep it down,” grumbled an annoyed Atmosphere. “I’ll be right back,” he said to Lady Light as he headed towards the back of the plane.
“Wait up!” called out Bulletboy. “I’ll go with you.”
As the two heroes entered the back cabin, they gazed upon the two prisoners they were escorting to Japan. There stood Solomon Grundy, bound by thick metal chains which were specially prepared by Nucleus to withstand even the zombie’s brute strength and Shrapnel, encased within a special tube which contained his explosive abilities.
“Let Grundy free or Grundy SMASH!” growled the hulking figure, as he rattled his chains frantically.
“That’s enough out of you!” commanded Atmosphere. “Now settle down or I’m going to give you a sedative!”
“Hey kid, aren’t you up past your bed-time?” Shrapnel asked Bulletboy, sarcastically.
“Shut it, trap-jaw,” snapped the hero from Fawcett City.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a loud crash was heard coming from the main cabin of the plane where Lady Light and Powerstorm were.
“Keep an eye on these two!” ordered Atmosphere as he raced back to the main cabin. He yanked open the door to find his two comrades lying on the floor with three villains standing over them: The Ghost of Gentleman Jim, Rag Doll, and another who wore a similar costume to his grandfather, the Golden Age Atom. Atmosphere’s mind grew bitter with rage over what the villains had seemingly done to his girlfriend Lady Light and to the younger Powerstorm. His right hand started to form a miniature twister around it when Gentleman Jim pointed out, “I strongly suggest you cease your wind powers immediately or you risk changing the air pressure in the cabin which could spell immediate disaster for you and your friends.”
The Ghost then floated towards Atmosphere and passed right through him as he gave his commands to his two teammates, “Rag Doll, you know what to do,” prompting the limber villainess to head towards the pilot’s cabin, “Cyclotron, keep this simpleton busy while I get Grundy.”
“Oh no you don’t,” Atmosphere said turning around to assault Gentleman Jim, but, before he could act, a concussive blast of energy struck his back.
“Don’t you know how to respect your elders…..Albert?” asked Cyclotron.
Atmosphere grasped his sore back as his mind raced with alarm over the fact this new villain had called him by his real name, “What did you call me?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Al,” smiled Cyclotron. “Our families have a long history together but that didn’t matter when it came time for you and your teammates to hand over Black Orchid to the authorities.”
“That voice…..” Atmosphere said, figuring out who was under the mask in front of him. “Terry, why are you helping these guys?”
Cyclotron then proceeded to kick Atmosphere in the face. “You sons of b*tches let my dad’s killer walk away scott-free and you’re the worst offender of all! At our family get-togethers, you always used to say how much you looked up to my dad and how much you admired him but when it came down to it, you turned your back on him and now you’re going to pay for it.”
“Look, I know you’ve had a rough life with your parents being separated but you’re not well,” Atmosphere said as he punched Cyclotron in the face, knocking him backwards.
Cyclotron responded with a knuckle-sandwich to Atmosphere’s nose, causing it to bleed profusely. “You’re the one who’s in trouble here. Heck, you can’t even use your powers, chump! But don’t worry, I don’t have any qualms about using mine!” he taunted as his fist started to glow.
“GET AWAY FROM HIM!” shouted a recently recovered Lady Light as she blasted Cyclotron in the back
The atomic-powered villain dropped to his knees in agony.
Atmosphere looked at Lady Light who was making her way towards him, “Don’t worry about me, I can take care of this guy. Go help the pilots. Some female villain headed towards their cabin. God only knows what she’s doing to them.”
The daughter of Dr. Light II quickly turned around and headed towards the pilot’s cabin in a panic.
Meanwhile the back cabin, Shrapnel continued to tease Bulletboy. “You hear all of that ruckus out there? Someone’s come to free us. Better let me out while you have the chance.”
“You’re not scaring me,” countered Bulletboy. “The Titans and I will handle whatever is out there.”
“You’re a cocky one, kid,” smirked the metallic villain. “I’ll bet you won’t be so mouthy once I ventilate your body.”
“You and what army?” barked Bulletboy.
“What a brave young soul you are,” noticed Gentleman Jim as he passed through the door and entered the room.
“Holy )#&@!!!” exclaimed Bulletboy. “A freakin’ ghost!!!”
“Right you are, my boy,” Gentleman Jim confirmed as bowed.
Bulletboy flew towards him in an effort to stop the sinister poltergeist before he had a chance to act. He swung his fists in a fury but they passed through Jim Craddock effortlessly.
The Ghost then passed through Bulletboy and once behind him, grabbed him by the back of the head and slammed him face-first into a wall. The blow nearly knocked the young hero out. He dropped to his knees in a daze.
Solomon Grundy then commented, “Grundy remember Ghost from a long time a go. Ghost is friend, right?’
“Why yes, Solomon. Why else would I be here?” the Ghost teased as he aimed his cane at Grundy’s chains and turned them to dust.
“Finally, Grundy free from stupid chains!” roared the brute.
As Gentleman Jim and Grundy started to exit the room, Shrapnel asked, “Hey! What about me???”
“Hmm….you’re not on the invite list but if you promise to keep this whelp busy while my friends and I make our exit….” offered the Ghost.
In the front of the plane, Lady Light entered the pilot’s cabin only to find one of the two pilots lying on the floor with a scythe through his chest. “That poor man!” she whispered as she turned to see that the other pilot was standing up. Rag Doll had climbed on his back and was ready for the kill. Lady Light’s despair quickly became rage, “Butcher! Let him go NOW!” she ordered as her right hand lit up.
“If you say so,” Rag Doll replied with a hoarse whisper as she snapped the pilot’s neck and shoved his body into Lady Light, knocking her on her back. Rag Doll took a half second the revel in the horror she had caused and hopped over Lady Light and made her way to the main cabin to join her teammates.
In the meantime, Atmosphere had taken full advantage of Lady Light’s attack on Cyclotron. Though it pained him to do so, he had pummeled Cyclotron into unconsciousness. Before he could sigh with relief, he noticed Gentleman Jim and Solomon Grundy coming from the rear while Rag Doll was coming from the front. He cursed under his breath as he prepared for another fight. Lucky for him, Powerstorm had recovered and blasted the three villains with his atomic powers, temporarily stunning them. A few seconds later, a mortified Lady Light joined the fray and blasted the hulking Solomon Grundy as he staggered towards them.
Atmosphere then yelled over to Powerstorm, “Go check on Bulletboy!”
“We don’t have time for petty fights,” sighed Gentleman Jim as he picked up the awakening Cyclotron. “I’ll keep them busy, call Sorrow for transport!” he said floating towards Atmosphere and Lady Light. He raised his cane and fired a blast of ghostly energy at the couple which the two heroes were lucky to dodge. In a sick twist of irony, the blast soared past the heroes and continued to the pilot’s cabin where it struck the control panel and disabled the auto-pilot. The plane started to descend slowly.
“You idiot!” screamed Atmosphere. “You knocked out the auto-pilot. The plane is likely to crash and kill all of you!”
“We’ll be long gone before that happens,” Gentleman Jim said, turning towards Cyclotron.
Cyclotron raised his communicator to his mouth, “Sorrow – pick us up and…” he started until the device was shattered in his hand thanks to a blast from Lady Light.
“If we go down, you are coming with us,” decreed Lady Light, angrily.
“I’ve got to try and stop the plane from crashing. Keep these losers busy,” Atmosphere requested of Lady Light as he headed for the door and flew outside.
In the back cabin, Powerstorm had joined Bulletboy in battle with Shrapnel. The two heroes were becoming frustrated as nearly everything they threw at the villain was doing little to slow him down.
“What do we have to do to shut this guy down?” Bulletboy asked.
“We may not have to worry about that much longer!” advised Powerstorm. “Look out the window! The plane is heading downward and fast. Something must have happened to the pilot.
“Oh this is rich. I’ll be the only one to survive the crash and I’ll get to walk all over your dead corpses,” gloated Shrapnel.
Outside the plane, Atmosphere was manipulating the air currents to slow the plane’s descent. It was taking every bit of concentration he had to pull off this feat. His muscles were straining while the veins in his head were bulging. “We’ve got a long way to go ‘til we get to the ground and I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this up!” Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed someone streaking through the sky.
It was a man with longer brown hair, dressed in green and yellow. He flew under the plane, seemingly bracing it on is back. “Let’s set the plane down in the field below,” he suggested.
A few minutes later, the plane was safely on the ground. Those inside were still a bit started as the heroes and villains made their way out through separate exits. Ready to continue their fight, they prepared for further battle when the green and yellow garbed man declared, “Stand down. You are all under arrest for endangering the people of Markovia. I am Geo-Force II, prince of this land and I order you to surrender.”
Atmosphere approached the prince, “Listen, your majesty, we four are members of the Titans of Justice. We were trying to escort some of these villains to a prison facility in Japan when their teammates attacked and decided to bring down the plane. Plus, I believe we have diplomatic immunity in this country.”
The villains blatantly ignored Geo-Force’s orders and charged toward the heroes. The Titans decided to meet them head-on and the battle reignited. Energy beams flew back and forth while savage punches were thrown from both sides. In the midst of the commotion, neither team noticed the arrival of the Wizard and Johnny Sorrow who had come to claim their teammates.
“We need a distraction to get the others out of here,” advised Johnny Sorrow to his partner.
“I think I see just the avenue…” the Wizard smirked with a twisted grin as he pointed at Bulletboy and Shrapnel who were locked in battle once again.
Shrapnel cold-clocked Bulletboy, knocking him several feet back. He started to advance toward the young boy, hoping to finish him off.
Powerstorm then noticed his teammate was in trouble, “I’ve got to do something before Bulletboy bites off more than he can chew,” he thought to himself. He quickly released a steam of atomic energy in hopes of turning Shrapnel’s metallic shell back to human flesh.
Meanwhile, Bulletboy had recovered from Shrapnel’s blow and flew towards the villain, not noticing Powerstorm’s oncoming blast.
Several yards away, the Wizard took full advantage of this opportunity and waived his hand, “A simple spell of reversal should provide us with just the distraction we need and pay Bulletboy back for turning us down!” Arcane energy spewed forth and mixed with Powerstorm’s blast right as Bulletboy grabbed onto Shrapnel’s arm. The blast then hit the two adversaries causing a horrifying explosion.
BOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!
As the rest of the Titans raced toward the black cloud of smoke, the Injustice Society regrouped and teleported away thanks to Johnny Sorrow.
Atmosphere used his powers to clear away the black smoke while Lady Light tended to Bulletboy.
Powerstorm was in a panic, “I’m really sorry! I didn’t know the Wizard was going to mix his magic with my blast or that Bulletboy would get caught in it’s path!”
“Calm yourself!” urged Lady Light as she turned Bulletboy over(who was laying face down), “You are not responsible for what happened.” As she looked down at Bulletboy, she covered her mouth as she gasped in horror. “The poor boy!!!”
