PROLOGUE
The Upper Bedroom of an A-frame Style Home just outside the City Limits of Coast City, California
U.S. Air Force Captain Hal Jordan had lived an exciting and eventful life. His duties as Green Lantern always kept things interesting. But though he enjoyed his dual careers, he regretted not having much time for his teen-aged son. With his wife often away at Ferris Aircraft on business, Hal had found raising his son Daniel challenging. He was very proud of what a good kid Daniel had turned out to be. Hal felt a little melancholy about his son entering college in the fall. Daniel would do fine, but he sure would miss him.
“Rise and shine, son! We’ve got a busy…oh. You’re already up? Did you stay up all night?” asked Hal.
“No, I’ve just been up for awhile,” replied his son. Daniel looked quite a bit like his father, but was completely bald and was slightly shorter. On the desk he was seated at was a Physics book, a Calculus book, and an open Bible. “So what is the big surprise you have been hinting at all week?”
With a big smile Hal replied, “How would you like to go to…” Hal stopped abruptly when he felt the familiar, but unwelcome buzzing in his power ring. Invisible to all but himself when in his civilian identity, its signal informed him of a priority meeting of the Justice League of America. With a frown Hal continued, “…wait here son, I need to use the bathroom.”
A look of disappointment came over Daniel’s face as his father turned and walked quickly downstairs. Hal closed the restroom door and turned the sink faucet on. He pressed a device on his ring and asked, “Ollie, what do you know about this priority JLA meeting? Is it important?”
A small green image of the Green Arrow appeared above his ring replied, “Beats me. Apparently Aquaman has some big announcement to make. Bats says everyone’s gotta be there.”
“Great,” replied Hal sarcastically, “…see you there, I guess.”
Hal flushed the toilet and started upstairs to find his son standing in the doorway of his bedroom with his arms crossed. “What now, Dad?” asked Daniel in a less than friendly way.
“Look, son…something’s come up…”
“in the BATHROOM?" Daniel interuppted, "Something’s come up in the freaking BATHROOM?”
“Daniel, I’m sorry. I promise I’ll make it up to you. Tonight. I promise.”
Daniel looked at his father very seriously, went back into his room and quietly closed the door. Moments later he heard a “soaring” sound outside. He pulled back his bedroom curtain to see a streak of green light in the sky. “For as many times as he flies over our house,” Daniel thought to himself, “that Green Lantern guy must live somewhere nearby.” Turning around he picked up his Bible, jumped on his bed in a reclining position, turned to I Samuel chapter 17, and began reading his favorite Bible passage.

Space: Near the Planet Korugar
“Now, that was cool!” remarked Green Arrow.
“What? The meeting?” asked Green Lantern.
“Definitely not.” stated Black Canary, “Arrow is referring to the space-warp you just took us through.”
“Yeah, that meeting was kind of strange, wasn’t it?” added Green Arrow, “What is with that guy anyway? He is always wound so tight.”
“Who can blame him? He has lived through every parent’s worst fear. Ever since Black Manta killed Arthur’s baby, he has never been the same.” observed Black Canary.
“Yeah, but you would think he could lighten up a little sometimes. At least he didn’t stand on the table like Clark.” muttered Green Arrow.
“You know, you should show him a little more respect, Ollie. Imagine if it were one of the twins.” rebuked his wife.
“She’s got a point.” agreed Green Lantern. “I can only imagine how I would feel if that had happened to my son.”
Green Arrow was strangely quiet at the thought. After about three minutes of uncomfortable silence he said, “So, Hal, what’s with this Green Bat-plane you conjured up? Are you tired of giant energy bubbles?"
“Who says Bruce should get all the perks?” said Green Lantern with a wry grin. “I guess it’s my way of saying thanks for joining me on this witch-hunt for Sinestro."
“Well, I think teaming-up on assignments like these is a good idea.” replied Black Canary. “Aquaman’s idea for us to go pro-active and hunt down super-villains in their secret identities is a good one. I know I could use both of your help in taking down Count Veritgo after we help you nail Sinestro, Hal.”
“It will be my pleasure.” remarked Green Lantern with a smile.
“Yeah, well I kind of think I can handle my task on my own.” mumbled Green Arrow.
“You never said who you were assigned to, Ollie.” said Green Lantern.
“…the Clock King…” murmured Green Arrow. Black Canary and Green Lantern burst out in laughter.
“Poor Ollie doesn’t get any respect.” said the lovely blonde as she softly kissed her husband on the cheek.
“Well, good grief,” exclaimed Green Arrow, “anybody can take down Clock King. Why couldn’t they give me someone a little more formidable? Anyway, I was thinking this would be the perfect chance for me to take Robbie out with me.”
Black Canary looked tersely at Green Arrow.
“Well, come ON, Dinah! It’s just the Clock King. What could possibly happen?” asked Green Arrow.
“How long has he been doing this “Dark Arrow” thing anyway?” asked Green Lantern, “a month? Maybe a team-up with an experienced hero like “the Mighty Green Arrow” could benefit him.”
“I just don’t like the idea of him out on the streets hunting down criminals.” replied Black Canary, “It’s dangerous.”
“But if he’s going to do it anyway, wouldn’t it be better if one of us actually went with him while he’s still new?” asked Green Arrow.
Evading the subject Black Canary asked, “…and when are you going to finally get around to telling your son that you are Green Lantern? He will be graduating from high school soon, Hal. Don’t you think it’s about time?”
Green Lantern thought for a few moments and replied, “We’d better get focused on the mission. We’re almost there.”

Evening: A Common Korugarian House in a Suburban Community
“Lantern, this house looks just like every house around here,” whispered Green Arrow to his Justice League teammate.
“Are you sure this is it?” questioned Black Canary.
A small green instrument appeared above Green Lantern’s ring. “My scan of this house confirms the research J’onn J’onzz gave us. Sinestro is in this building as we speak. Ready?”
The three heroes had worked together often. Each knew his role. The Black Canary kicked down the front door of the house. Simultaneously the Green Arrow crashed through the ceiling window. Green Lantern entered the building by using his power ring to pass through the outer wall, a trick he learned from Alan Scott. But none of them were prepared for what awaited them inside.
Screams of horror pierced the three heroes’ ears. Inside, a Korugarian woman and a child who looked to be about eight years by earth standards were horrified at this alien invasion. Green Lantern’s ring translated the young girl’s shrieks of terror, “MONSTERS! MONSTERS!” The woman was paralyzed with fear as the young girl clutched her mother’s dress and screamed. Then another girl who looked to be in her teens came running from out of another portion of the house. More screams and shrieks followed.
All three Justice Leaguers were at a loss for what to do. Green Arrow approached the Korugarian woman, who stepped back, lost her balance, and fell on her young daughter. The teen-aged girl jumped on the “hero” and started beating him with her fists. The Black Canary tried to intervene, only to make things worse. “We’re with the Justice League,” she said unaware that the word for justice and judgment is the same in the Korugarian language.
“Please, calm down!” translated Green Lantern’s power ring, “We mean you no harm. There has been some type of mistake. We were looking for a man named Sinestro. We were told that we would find him here.”
At the name of Sinestro all three Korugarians immediately stopped. Their eyes widened and their bodies began shaking. “The evil Sinestro?” asked the woman.
“Mommy, I’m scared, “ cried the young girl.
“What would the evil Sinestro want with us?” asked the woman.
“Why would he come here?” demanded the teen girl.
“Is the evil Sinestro going to get us, Mommy?” asked the young girl.
Black Canary kneeled down to the eye-level of the young girl. “No one is going to get you. I’m sorry that we’ve scared you.” Green Lantern’s power ring translated the Canary’s words of comfort for the young child. Still, the child jerked back and embraced her mother’s legs.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? WHY HAVE YOU COME?” the teen shouted as she leaped on Green Lantern and began choking him.
A large emerald hand burst forth from Green Lantern’s ring and gently placed the teen on a cushion resting on the floor.
Just then a tall, thin Korugarian man entered the room from another passageway. Though his skin tone was a medium Korugarian magenta, his dark hair and facial features eerily matched those of Superman. His eyes widened as he recognized the invaders. Though all three Korugarian females ran to him and embraced him, his eyes remained trained on Green Lantern. Green Arrow and Black Canary both turned their attention to the Green Lantern as the archer asked, “Hal?”
Green Lantern’s ring reproduced the instrument he had used when outside the house. Looking up quickly from the instrument he shot a blast of green light at the face of the Korugarian man, melting away the facade and revealing a horrified Sinestro.
Utter chaos followed. The young girl panicked and started shrieking in a very high pitch. The teen screamed and fell back. The woman began gasping for air and collapsed. The teen began accusing her father, “YOU”RE THE EVIL SINESTRO! YOU”RE THE EVIL SINESTRO!”
The young child’s continued screams revived her mother. “You have DECEIVED us! GET OUT! GO AWAY! NEVER come here again!” demanded Sinestro’s wife.
“GO!” insisted the teen as the young girl continued sobbing and shrieking.
“This is YOUR fault!” shouted an enraged Sinestro as he glared at his three enemies. “You have ruined everything!”
“Just GO!” repeated Sinestro’s teen-aged daughter.
“You have taken everything from me!” exclaimed Sinestro as his coloring turned darker red. Ascending in the air he threatened, “I will find your families…” A yellow energy opening appeared behind Sinestro.
All three of earth’s heroes prepared to attack.
“…by the time you reach earth they will be MEAT!” vowed Sinestro as he vanished.
