The Floating City of Ku Byrt, Thanagar…
The Arachnid was on the run, it was one thing to walk away from an execution, but the bug-themed champion of hacks everywhere was stupid enough to keep his costume on as he walked through the streets.
As you can imagine, having a ‘murderer’ on the loose gave a violent reaction. So, as you can imagine, the Arachnid was being hounded by a large mob of Thanagarians. This had really not been his day. Getting shot at was bad enough, he thought, and the violent mob would be horrible. Especially being ripped to shreds by these people.
Yeah, it was going to be a long day…

The Remains of the Rannagarian Rebellion Base…
“Where’s the Zeta Beam?” Scott Stone, Starman asked loudly, and rather rudely. He was so happy before, before the Chancellor tore it all down. Aleea and he were in the very beginning of a relationship, his best friend was growing up, slowly, sure, but it was there nonetheless. Aleea still stood by his side, and he saw in her everything he liked, and everything he loved. But, he felt guilty as he thought of home. The Titans West, his family.
Wonder Warrior, strong, weary, sometimes manipulative and paranoid, but without him, Scott didn’t believe in himself, Supergirl, cute as a button, strong, compassionate, Scott’s long-time crush, Queen Bee, passionate workaholic, concerned only with her work, and always great to match wits with, Kid Comet, telepathic powerhouse who kept pushing himself to the sidelines, Scott had rarely talked to him, Frost, kind, caring, all-around perfect leader, Jemstone, pop-star, giving, a little egotistical, but who isn’t? Arachnid, immature, braggart, and above all, hack.
The Titans was his home, his way of life. And now he was responsible for one being sentenced to his death.
“We’ve fished it out of the wreckage, but, it’s not quite in working order.” Adam Strange said his thin hair-line seemed to flicker forward. “I’m sorry, but our latest transmission shows your friend, being shot…” Adam said, calmly, and sadly.
Scott’s face went white. He was sure that the Arachnid had died because of him. A single tear was shed. Everything went wrong, he found happiness, and lost it all too quickly. His friend was dead. He may never return home. So many thoughts ran through his head. He clung to his mask, pulling it on.
“That’s it! We’re taking the fight to the Chancellor!” Starman yelled. “Get your weapons! Dig out any aircraft you find. The High Chancellor is going down!”
“But…didn’t the Arachnid kill that delegate?” Aleea asked, looking at the impassioned super-hero.
“He might’ve. But, there’s no way that blast could’ve done that.” Starman justified. “He’s the Arachnid! He’s about as useful as…as…something really useless…” Starman said, nervously. “I know he didn’t kill, can we leave it at that?”
“Sure. I’ll armor up, and we’ll fly to Thanagar, fight the entire Wingmen Corps, and fight to justify your friend’s death.” Aleea smiled, she ran off, leaving Starman to his thoughts.
He thought of what he left behind. His first thoughts were of Supergirl, and that Kid Marvel she started hanging around, he found himself thinking of Aleea, and how happy she made him.
He thought of Wonder Warrior and Frost. Of Jemstone, and her long, long concerts. He remembered falling asleep during her show. In his defense, he’d had a long day at that point.
He thought of the Titans West, the Titans of Justice, and he only hoped he could go back. Even if it meant leaving his greatest joy behind. Arachnid was right, he wasn’t Green Lantern, there were plenty of other people who were. He wasn’t one of them.

The Floating City of Ku Byrt, Thanagar…
The hunt was on, the Arachnid felt like a fox, being chased by those guys on horses with the bloodhounds sniffing him out. The bug-themed hero moved left, he moved right, he moved into another mob.
“I could’ve sworn you guys were behind me.” The Arachnid snarkily said, before being bonked on the head.
He found himself attacked maliciously and knew he needed to stop the Thanagarians before his suit went away.
His eyes closed, and he glowed blue, shocking everyone who swarmed around him. Blue energy sparked everywhere, and the mob fell to their knees. The Arachnid saw in blue how their hearts were beating steadily.
The Arachnid noted his new vision. Everything was blue, and he could detect anything. He knew what materials had been used, how weak something’s structure was. It was clear to him that the Scarab that he was now a part of h,ad upgraded. He was experiencing the next level of his powers.
He smirked a little, finding himself finally getting his way. His strength was increased, and he was now able to fully comprehend the alien language the Scarab used. He thought in that language now.
It was all very strange and new, but, the Arachnid knew his options, his strength, energy blasts and endurance had all just been taken to the next level, where he could probably hold his own against Commander Steel on a good day, rather than just take the beating he handed out.
“Cool.” The Arachnid mouthed, unable to think anything else. He found himself constantly translating the signs in the city, and found himself knowing where he was, on the corner of Fohx Ef and Guard Nehr, a major street, where he was bound to be found.
“Okay. I’ve got two options. Shock everyone or…f-f-f-fly…” The Arachnid said to himself, his new awareness left him little rational choice.
The Arachnid launched himself into the air, flying past building, completely terrified and with his eyes shut tight. His scarab-y instincts would take over and take him where he needed to go.
His fear of heights on the other hand left his heart beating so fast, he felt it would fall right out!

The Remains of The Rannagarian Rebellion Base…
Starman lined up with Aleea, and several other fighters. All now wearing a star on the right side of their chest, or shoulder, the Thanagarians didn’t want to be confused for the other Wingmen who were their enemies, and both groups of aliens wanted to show their respect to Scott.
He did make a difference, and he wasn’t giving up. In fact he was only just beginning. Scott Stone was the most serious looking member of the group. Aleea stood next to him, in her armor, and whispering to Scott how he has to keep his cool.
Scott wasn’t listening. He’d lost enough friends, and he couldn’t avenge them. This time, he wouldn’t pull his punches on the Chancellor. This was it. The final fight he could feel it. This was the end.
“Aleea, stop, please. I don’t want to ruin what we have now, but I need to do this on my terms.” Scott whispered, as the Zeta Beam Ray was aimed at the small army.
“Scott listen,” Aleea started, “When this is all over, then we can really begin something. Right now I’m not sure what we have. I’d like to figure it out. So, let’s try to both come out of this alive, okay?”
“Okay.” Scott smiled, as the Zeta Beam transported the small army. All but Ch’al Andar and Adam went, they had decided to take care of the many wounded, and fish out the dead, so they could all receive proper burials.

The Floating City of Ku Byrt, Somewhere above the tallest building…
“Oh God! I’m gonna die!” The Arachnid screamed, he was dropping to the roof of the tallest building he’d encountered yet. The bug-themed hero had dropped his flight out of fear, and now found himself staring at a solid steel ceiling. It’s probably hurt him more than the ceiling when he hit it.
He didn’t exactly land, rather, he fell through the stories of the building. Finding not only different reactions, but different species and quite a few Thanagarians happy to start beating on him.
A bad time to be seen, don’t you agree?
When he finally landed with a thud, he was on the ground floor, and woozier than he dared imagine. It took him a minute to notice that this was the building the High Chancellor housed himself in.
He shrieked as a green glow picked him up.
“Chancy! Have you gotten a hair-cut?” The Arachnid asked, his voice cracking in fear.
The High Chancellor floated before him, glowing green in his robed version of a Green Lantern costume, his eyes glowed bright green, and the green energy turned into a violent beam of energy that it soon became obvious the Chancellor couldn’t control.
“What’s happening?” The Chancellor screamed.
“Those rings hate me!” The Arachnid screamed, still seeing double. “Even Spaceman has shot me twice with it.” He said, feeling himself hit the wall, and starting to imprint himself in it.
“Why can’t I control it?!!?” The High Chancellor roared, his anger and hate boiling to the surface.
A yellow blast hit him in the chest. The ring stopped, and tried to soar off the Chancellor’s finger.
“Not you!” The High Chancellor screamed.
Before him stood Scott Stone, the one and only current Starman, he proudly wore his blue, red and white costume, with the green high-lighted gloves, and the black, star-field trench-coat. His mask’s eye shields glowed with a triumphant smile, as did his face.
“You can’t control it because you have horrible will power, my man. By the way, totally un-cool what you did.” Starman said knowingly, “Killing the delegate yourself, and replacing him with a Durlan. Real smooth man. I’ve gotta thank Lt. Kroz for hacking your databanks.”
“I’ll still kill you! I’ve killed before. These people fear me!” The High Chancellor screamed.
“Shut up. I’m here to avenge…Arachnid, is that you?” Starman asked, just noticing the bug-themed hero stuck to the wall.
“I’m okay. In the past two hours, I’ve been shot, upgraded and blasted again. I’m in all kinds of pain at the moment, but I’m fine. Thanks for askin’.”
“Wait, you were killed, weren’t you?”
“Focus on the dress-wearing guy with the ring!” The Arachnid shrieked, as another wave of green energy hit him.
“Ring, come to me.” Starman said, holding his ring hand out. The ring tried to come off of the High Chancellor’s hand, but found his will strong enough to hold onto it, or rather his greed.
Starman moved his Cosmic Rod into position, so he could blast the Chancellor again, only to find the room filled with Dark Wingmen, leering at him.
“I wondered if you guys would show up.” Starman laughed. “Rebels, let’s show these losers how it’s done, hero style.” Starman again laughed.
“We’ll win, you fool. I’ve kept Thanagar under my rule for too long to let a moron like you stop me. My ten years of rule have made Thanagar perfect! Perfect!”
“Shut up, Chancy. You’re going down.” The Arachnid said, pushing himself off of the wall. “Spider-Star Team Style, Spaceman. Spider-Star Team Style.”
Starman smirked, as the Arachnid moved next to him, his fists glowing with blue energy.
“He’s not gonna hit me with the ring again is he?” The Arachnid whispered.
“He probably will, but, hey, you’ve been shot plenty of times.”
“When we get out of this, I never want to see that ring again. I really hate those things now.” The Arachnid whispered harshly.
The room filled with the Rannagarian Rebels on one side and the High Chancellor and the Dark Wingmen on the other. All poised for attack. It was clear that Starman would make the first move.
