Over on the old Classics forum we had a lot of discussion of books & movies in threads (Shax's horror films, my sci-fi thread, ish's Charlie Chan thread, Wildfire's classic sci-fi book thread and others, mostly because people wanted to have the discussion with members our our community and not on the forums dedicated to those topics on CBR.
Well this site is just our community, so would it be worth having a forum for books and a forum for movies here on the site to foster those kinds of discussions here?

I was a part of another forum that had something similar happened and we tried to create a new forum for ourselves. Although it's nearly a decade later and a majority of us are still in contact through Facebook, the forum and web page it was tied to died. I think one of its failings was that we tried to create too many forums right from the get instead of keeping the space the same size as we'd grown accustomed to interacting with each other in and letting the site grow naturally. A whole forum dedicated to a particular topic should be kept for when there are so many threads being created that it drowns everything out. It's much more fun to post in one forum that is varied with topics but active than multiple forums but sparse in threads and posts.
Of course, this is a whole different group of people and different situation and may immediately need a books & movies forum?

I think, for the moment, the goal should be to keep things pretty similar to how they were -- just for ease of transition and keeping everyone comfortable with the new space.
In time, it's worth discussing separate forums. Of course, the risk in creating such partitions is that discussion fragments. One of the aspects of the classic comics forum so special for me was that it was a place where we discussed EVERYTHING, even while largely trying to maintain a focus on classic comics.

One forum was enough to accommodate everything we wanted to talk about before so why not now?

I agree with Cei-U and Shax... having lots of subsections always SEEMS like a great idea, but it really just makes people look at less of the board.
I think we'd be best to see how the traffic is over the next few weeks, and go from there.
