A place to discuss favorite memories from conventions long past or even ones you attended just this past weekend. And, if you met a comic creator somewhere else (store signing, perhaps) share that too!

I went to the SAN DIEGO COMIC COM back in 1993 - and one of my fond memories of that convention is having a pleasure of meeting Jim Aparo - DC Comics Artist that's known to draw Aquaman, Batman, and Spectre. He was a pleasant person to talk to.
I listened to him for a good hour or so sharing his work with DC Comics and one member from the audience asked him to draw Batman for kicks and he took a good 15-20 minutes to whip of a great rendering of Batman and I was in awe seeing it from start to finish and that lucky member from the audience took home that picture of Batman and I was shocked seeing him giving it to him.
I remember it was a madhouse trying to move from one end to another. It's was nuts going from one end to another and it's was mind-blowing seeing all of it at once. I was there for 2 days and mainly went to hear people speak and experience it altogether.
It was so crowded that day and I could not buy anything worthwhile there but being there was spectacle and I treasured those moments being there. After spending 2 days there - I rejoined my family at San Diego Zoo and flew back home afterwards.

I can't really tell most of my best convention stories on a public forum (some include being in adult places (I probably shouldn't have been) with a well known comics columnist at SDCC 2002, or witnessing some well known Sci-Fi actors behaving inappropriately at one of our friend's room parties (Dragon*con), or seeing other actors be so sick they were forcibly removed from a hotel (again Dragon*con), or maybe a well known writer at a "Drink & Draw" party on the patio of a pub, deciding to NOT go to the restrooms and instead peeing in full view of our table (full of other well known comics writers and artists (as well as their kids) (this one was at a Dallas Convention). . I'll have to see if I can find one that wouldn't' be too embarrassing to post Oh, there was that time that I met a bunch of CBR folks at a Dallas WizardWorld convention (it was so long ago, but Koop got us free passes, and I remember going out to dinner with Doug Strange, and BUNCH of other CBR posters at the time). at that convention, I recall Gareb Shamus, casually striking up a conversation with me at the urinals, asking me how I was enjoying the convention and stuff. . . that one was interesting, if not entirely memorable (since I can't recall the whole conversation, only that I immediately came out of the bathroom and reported the interaction to those that had been waiting in the meeting spot to go off to dinner). LOL (edited by request to make it more family friendly).

I joined CBR in '06, so my first Comic-Con as a CBRian was '07, but it had a very light forum turn-out. But '08 was much better. Matt, Gus & Kristen, Liz, Fabian, Tages, Stonegold etc. etc.
We did the traditional bar crawl from early afternoon until the wee hours of the night. Ran across Bruce Campbell, Joss Whedon, somehow snuck into an industry party on the top floor of the hotel. Stonegold got quite angry, as apparently drunken me was interfering with his attempts to hit on a girl. I'm hazy on those details.
Actually, I'm hazy on a lot of the details. About 12 hours of drinking and fun, my first real party with internet friends.

I think the SDCC I went to was 05. . quite a few CBR folks at that one (I shared a room with Bouncing Boy & Rally (and Guapo)).
it was fun, but one time was more than enough for me, and it was getting crazy back then too. . wow. . it was 10 years ago?

When I was 12, I was waiting in line to meet someone at a convention. In my bag was a recently purchased copy of Moon Knight. I think I said something about Moon Knight to my dad, and the guy in line behind us turned around and said he was a big Moon Knight fan, too. We had a fun discussion about the book until we reached the front of the line and got our books signed. That was at the first comic convention I ever attended.
More recently, I've met several comic creators at conventions. Neal Adams had a big line at his table, so I only met him for a minute, but he was pretty nice. I got to briefly talk about The Joker's Five-Way Revenge, which was fun. At that same convention, I met Chris Claremont, who I was able to talk to a bit more. He was really nice and signed my Wolverine hardcover, and we talked about the Wolverine movie that was coming out at that time. I've also met a few of the Aw Yeah Comics people, and that was a lot of fun. A few years ago I met Chris Smits, and this past year I met Art Baltazar, who has written and drawn some of my all-time favorite books. Fortunately, we were at the end of the line, so we had time to talk about Itty Bitty Hellboy (which was my introduction to Lobster Johnson and the Hellboy universe as a whole) and Superman Family Adventures, which is quite possibly my favorite DC comic book ever. I also got a nifty crayon and sharpie sketch of Lobster Johnson, and got a few books signed. I really like conventions. I wouldn't want to go to them all the time, but meeting creators is fun and I love being in a place where comics are everywhere.
