The Burroughs novels I read this year : Beyond the farthest star (Good!) Beyond thirty (Very good!) The monster men (Very bad!) The land that time forgot (Very good!) The people that time forgot (Good!) Out of time's abyss (Good!) The mad king (Very good!) The outlaw of Torn (Very good!) Llana of Gathol (O.K.) A fighting man of Mars (O.K.) The master mind of Mars (Good!) Synthetic men of Mars (Good!) The chessmen of Mars (Good!) I'm currently reading and almost done with Beyond Thirty/The Lost Continent. It's the first time I've read it in probably 30 years. The only other Burroughs I've read this year is The Son of Tarzan, which was fair to good. Next will be Thuvia, but that will be in a few months. I'm slowly working through his oeuvre chronologically. I can't be impartial when it comes to the son of Tarzan, as it's the first book I ever read. Intellectually I know it's a case of "let's do the same thing again, only with the kid" (in which sense it is pretty much like Thuvia, maid of Mars), but I still can't bring myself to judge it too harshly. Korak was my hero when I was 8, even more than Tarzan was!
