I found out earlier today that my book is making its official debut at this year's San Diego ComicCon in two short weeks. Can't ask for a more appropriate launch pad than that! I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what fandom (and the reviewers) think of my efforts. Cei-U! I summon the pre-curtain jitters! Do you know if it will be solicited in Previews (or has it been) so I can have my lcs order it, or if not, where can I order a copy? -M Dunno about Previews, but you can order it through Amazon or directly from TwoMorrows (who, last time I looked, were still offering it at approximately 15% off full retail).
Cei-U! I summon the sales pitch!

The listing for the book on the TwoMorrows page has the Diamond order code. apparently it was solicited in February. -M

Back in the USA. I enjoyed my 2 weeks in England but it is nice to be back home. Looking forward to seeing my family this evening and tomorrow. Fortunately my wife and I have off work until Wed.

I've bitten twice in my career. The last one was a pit-bull on the arm. That's enough for me.

The wheels of bureaucracy turn exceedingly slowly, but I'm starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of what has proven to be a very long tunnel. Things are FINALLY starting to fall into place and some of my health and financial issues are moving toward resolution.
* My ResponseLink/Alert1 emergency system has been upgraded to a new wireless model, which means my emergency alert pendant will now work anywhere, not just in my apartment, and incorporates a GPS locator. This is good news on a number of levels. Most significantly, it means that if I get into trouble while I'm out-and-about, I have instant access to medical help, police, fire, etc. My sister is particularly fond of this upgrade, as she worries every time I leave the house on my own... and to tell you the truth, I'm rather happy about it too. I'm too damn old for adventures.
* I've begun the application process to get free cellular service through the federal Lifeline program for low-income, senior and disabled consumers (I'm all three, a genuine triple threat). The service, run through Assurance Wireless, includes more voice, text, and data minutes than I'd ever use. It also includes a free phone, but I need to check if they can upgrade me to a tablet, since I'm physically unable to use a standard cell phone.
* The preceding two items mean I won't have to have a landline anymore, which means I can tell CenturyLink to eff off. Because my old alert system needed a landline to work, they had me over a barrel knowing they could gouge me with impunity. Now I can scout around for another internet provider without the onus of having to bundle it with phone service. I should be able to cut my bill in half, maybe more, something I desperately need to do in light of my recent rent increase.
* Wednesday, my sister and I meet with the first of the contractors bidding on the remodeling job to make my apartment ADA-compliant. We'll walk them through mu unit and discuss the possible upgrades we can do in addition to the bathroom reno. The state has approved a surprisingly large budget, and we want to make sure we get the maximum benefits out of this opportunity (without frittering it away on trivialities). We're hoping it can get done before Labor Day but we'll see.
Now if we could just get the idiots who are supposed to be ordering me a new manual wheelchair to get on the stick, I could start to feel like my life was returning at last to its normal state of equilibrium, which has been missing since my trip to the ER back in December. But hey! Progress!
Cei-U! I summon the guarded optimism!

A growing lake where the front lawn was this morning, had to have the city come quick and turn it off, then a plumber replaced a clapped out old pipe with a major upgrade, followed by a new valve for the toidy which now works better than new and uses little water and shuts off super fast. That was my day. Total damage just under $200 can. Just have to go with the flow, surf whatever wave comes along. Now I am gonna heat left-over spaghetti and throw something on the side for dins, then maybe I can look at some '70s Detective Comics that came...

My wife and I just bought our first cell phone. I feel like Steve Rogers coming out of his iceberg! Because of the industry I’m in I’ve had a cell phone provided by my jobs since 2000. And because of that very fact, if I ever get out, I’ll do all I can to not have to personally own one and just refer people to my wife’s phone number. I actually miss the days when people couldn’t reach you anywhere on the planet 24/7. Now iPods. Those are cool and I would buy one of those.

I actually miss the days when people couldn’t reach you anywhere on the planet 24/7. Now iPods. Those are cool and I would buy one of those. Expanding on that very good point a tad... I organise some groups via Meet Up (one is a book club). Because people have mobile phones, it's so easy for them to renege on an RSVP, e.g. you'll get a text, 20 minutes before the start, saying, "I can't make it..." Whether or not the excuse is valid or feeble, they can reach you. Back in the day, you organised a meet via a landline. You'd call someone. You'd arrange something. And you'd meet. People showed up. It's too easy for a lazy or non-committed person to decide they're not gonna show up and send a text 20-30 minutes before a social occasion. And that sucks.
