Isn't it galling? There are these people that get to sell comics for a living, and month after month, these underachievers just do not get into back-issue stock those few issues you need to complete your runs so you can start reading a set of comics. Here's the place for you to sound off about the issues you just can't find locally (who knows? maybe another member has one, and is willing to trade for it).
Here are ones I can't find:
Age of Bronze 27 Deadly Hands of Kung Fu 33 Firearm 13 Freex 12 Kings in Disguise 3 Love and Rockets (2001–2007) 7–20 Marvel Must Haves: Wolverine 1–3 Master of Kung Fu 28, 41 Murder Me Dead 4, 5 Planetary 6, 11 RASL 11, 13, 14 Stray Bullets 34, 35 The Twelve 9, 10

The funny part of those books is that they are not necessarily rare, just hard to find. I can't imagine they cost too much.

Planetary and Master of Kung Fu eluded me for quite some time as well. It was different issues, though. #22 and #23 for Planetary and #22 for MoKF.
I ended up finding the Planetary issues I needed in the back of an antique shop. Looks like they'd bought a collection of 7 or more short boxes from a person as it was fairly organized, uniform in bag & board and had a strange crease running along the tops of the bags of the comics (the comics themselves were fine). Whole runs were in there like X-Statix (which I picked up for myself), Top 10, Lucifer and other random "newer" comics. The entire Planetary run was in there as well. The next time I'm in that area I'll stop by and see if they're still there (it happens to be right down the street from of my favorite LCSs).

Promethea #32 and Jughead #325 are the current thorns in my side. Back in the day it was Avengers #177 that just about drove me to despair. I also just started collecting Usagi Yojimbo, and since my LCS has a huge back issue stock, I was sure I could fill in the gaps there. So I was extremely disappointed to find just one issue I needed from the Fantagraphics series. I do have one comic on your list, but Firearm #13 isn't leaving my possession.

Luckily, the lot I bought had the entire run with the exception of the final issue, #16. So I just need that one. I think I am missing 8 issues of the Fantagraphics series.

I only have one local comic shop and I've never even looked in his back issue bins. I can tell from his wall comics that we don't see eye to eye on pricing. I've bought comics locally through Craigslist and Facebook before, but that's kind of buy the stuff you find for cheap, no real shopping list. So I buy back issues pretty much exclusively online.

We have many shops locally, plus a couple of good sized conventions each year, so there are many opportunities for me to find books. Thus I find it remarkable that I have had trouble finding the one last issue of Avengers I need to complete the series.
Is it #1? The key #4 featuring the return of Captain America? No - it is the cheap, common, and unremarkable issue #169 which eludes me. Part of the fault is mine, since I do want it in fairly nice condition, but I still find it surprising that this unexceptional issue has somehow held out to be the last one I don't have.
We have a convention here in a month, so I have high hopes of finding a nice copy there.

Random stuff I can't find anywhere around my city, even with a decent number of LCS being here, such as:
Doc Savage #1 (Marvel) Incredible Hulk #255 Iron Man Annual #4 Jungle Action #'s 5 and 8 Spectacular Spider-Man #64 Werewolf by Night #4

I can respect that, Scott. My Promethea #32 isn't leaving mine!

Still, I understand the frustration and exasperation of wanting a copy—a nice copy—of a low-profile comic that just keeps on not turning up.

Living in New York City, there always were plenty of comic shops and conventions.I haven't looked for a back issue in decades but I recall failing to find those couple of Moon Knight issues that Stephan Platt did the artwork. I was never able to find them (I think there were only 3 or 4) in those pre-internet days. The artist himself essentially disappeared

There are quite a few comics that I'm always on the lookout for that I can never seem to find when digging through boxes at my LCS. Now logically I know I can find these comic books anytime on the internet and order them, but what would be the fun in that? - Camelot 3000 #2 - #5, #10 and #12
- The Night Force #1, #2, #4 - #11, #14
- Quasar #17
- Detective Comics #604, #605, #607 and #653
- S̶p̶i̶d̶e̶r̶-̶M̶a̶n̶ ̶#̶8̶,̶ ̶#̶1̶0̶ ̶-̶ ̶#̶1̶2̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶#̶1̶6̶
- The Punisher #77 - #79
- The Savage Dragon #30
- Cable #7 and #20
- Superman #9, #77 and #83
- The Avengers #368
- Black Panther #30
- Silver Surfer #93, #94 and #96
- WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #5
- Superman: The Man of Steel #14, #20 and #21
- Marvel Comics Presents #63 - #95
- Deathblow/Wolverine #2
