This is supposed to be a separate thread, right?
Anyway, awesome. So glad this is happening.

One thing I really dig is the '40s pulp vocabulary. Lots of action verbs "snapped" awake, lots of florid adjectives "aggressively nondescript."

I finally got a chance to start reading...while I don't know all that much about Golden Age DC, so far it's a great story. It's rare that you see disabilities portrayed in such a 'normal' light, which is great to see. I'll probably have some specific comments later... One question, when is the setting exactly? I'm thinking it's some form of the DCU... Earth 2 in the 90s? Is it Earth Cei-U? I'm guessing whatever the case, the JSA stories of the Golden age happened when they were published, and this is 30-40 years later? Or more? I'll definitely be reading as long as you keep posting

One thing I really dig is the '40s pulp vocabulary. Lots of action verbs "snapped" awake, lots of florid adjectives "aggressively nondescript." Sometimes it can be a hoot to read the old pulps. Doc Savage novels use "ejaculated" a lot when people spoke rapidly or vehemently.

One question, when is the setting exactly? I'm thinking it's some form of the DCU... Earth 2 in the 90s? Is it Earth Cei-U? I'm guessing whatever the case, the JSA stories of the Golden age happened when they were published, and this is 30-40 years later? Or more? The main story is set in early August of 2000, with the prologue set three years later and the epilogue 18 months or so after that. "Earth Cei-U" is as good a description as any. Tomorrow's installment will give you a much clearer idea of the basic setup, universe-wise. By the way, this is the first time I've read it front to back in 6 or 7 years. Resisting the urge to rewrite it as I poste has been hard. Cei-U! I summon the self-restraint! EDIT: I went back and looked at my old notes. The book's main events are set in 2000, not '97 as I previously wrote.

I bet! I know whenever I write something, even a couple days later I want to change it... can imagine something so large as a novel the temptation would be tough. You should focus on the sequel, though

I've read it before, but I still find that every chapter pulls me in and I end up reading the whole thing.
I still think they wouldn't drive all the way to Oshkosh if they're on the east side of the lake - Appleton, Neenah and Menasha are all closer.

I may not be rewriting as I go but I am doing a bit of unforeseen editing. This morning's chapter had several references to the lead character living in Gotham City instead of New York, a change I'd made several drafts earlier that apparently didn't make it into this part. Hope there's not too much of that ahead.

Seriously? No feedback now that the whole novel's been posted? Not even a hearty "Your book stinks and you suck?" I'm crushed!
Cei-U! CRUSHED, I tells ya!

I thought I heard crashing noise from the Northwest. Stop stacking the books so high.

You think you're kidding but I have a foot-high stack of books and magazines on my nightstand that's going to smother me in my sleep if I don't start working my way through it.
Cei-U! I summon the tower o' tomes!
