Man, that ending is genius; the wife and child standing on the hill over a series of wide screen panels depicting the passing of the day. The conclusion is evident but it doesn't make what happens any less striking.

Yeah, if it had been more abrupt the pay off wouldn't have been nearly as beautiful. |

The only other story that makes me that sad is the ending of Dragon Bellow, with Ino and Spot. |

The only other story that makes me that sad is the ending of Dragon Bellow, with Ino and Spot. I'm a sucker when it comes to pets dieing so I think I hold Spot's demise a little higher than this, but even so the emotional impact of this ending simply cannot be denied. And that's really saying something because the death was telegraphed practically from the start so we knew she wasn't getting a happy ending but despite that the scene still had some real punch to it. |
