Last minute request. Neal Adams is coming to Cleveland for Wizard World and is in need of people to work his table, selling prints for him. He needs two people on Friday and two people on Saturday. You would need to be there for the entire show, and (I believe) he's paying $15 an hour, plus providing you with free access to the convention. I realize this is very late notice, but they are in need of people, so if you can make it, PM me right away! Sitting next to Neal Adams AND getting paid...I'd drive pretty far for that privilege  |

I'd probably be down for that if I lived closer. I'd even do it for free -- well, free in that I pass on the money if I could get a sketch out of it in exchange!

I seem to recall something about that, but as I mentioned elsewhere, memory can be fickle. He argues for a theory in which the Earth is slowly expanding, as I understand it. I'm sure I couldn't do the argument justice if I tried, and I don't have enough knowledge to be on one side of the fence or the other, but it doesn't appear that anyone in the scientific community takes his views seriously. Whether that makes him Jor-El or L. Ron Hubbard is, I suppose, in the eye of the beholder. |

Neal doesn't seem to grasp that a cool idea that fits the facts is not enough to open a new field of inquiry. It must also come with some testable hypotheses, and these must then be verified. To wit: I could claim that cars function because under the hood there is a metal block that channels the Flash's speed force. The metal block tends to dissipate as infrared radiation into Mr. Mxyzpltk's dimension, but thanks to the power of Henry Ford's supernatural familiar, the gasoline we pour into the car replenishes the metal. That way, as long as there's enough gas in the tank, the speed force can flow and the far can move. These claims fit the facts we can observe. Naturally, the automotive industry won't even give me the time of day if I try to convince them that I'm a visionary and that their complicated models of internal combustion engines are a lot of hogwash (especially if I call them stubborn, stupid and naive in the process. Even more so if I further claim that many of the industry's engineers agree with me but don't dare admit it). John Byrne spoofed Neal's views on the exapanding Earth during his Fantastic Four run; Neal was represented as a Walt Disney-like character named Alden Maas (which is an anagram for... awww, you guessed). |

I was at the front of a line waiting to get into a con when Neal Adams walked past and into the building. I was too starstruck to say hi. I don't think anyone else there recognized him.
