Apologies to the die hard Kirby fans out there, but I've always thought that his female pin-ups looked like a freak show gallery. I'm pretty sure that is not what Kirby was going for.
He couldn't draw women like Liefeld can't draw feet.
If it was an elaborate machinery double-page spread or some freak like Modok, top marks there, but put a Kirby babe pin-up next to a Dave Stevens babe pin-up and there's no contest.....

Everyone knows that Kirby needed Vince Colletta to make his women look beautiful.

DC would do them as well, of course... Though they'd sometimes do something besides "just" a picture... But usually if DC had a page to fill, you'd get something like...

I like when they capture the personality of the subject and aren't a generic shot or pose. I'm not even the biggest Kirby fan, and I think that shot is adorable. Such a nice smile and evokes a gentler, friendlier time to me.

That is just not true. His in story depictions of women was fine. I agree his pinups could be awkward, but to compare his women to Liefeld anything is laughable. Likewise, using one of the best pinup artists in the history of comics as a yardstick is ridiculous. Put a Dave Stevens pinup next to all but a half a dozen other artists is no contest.
Kirby women in story panels, not Romita or Buscema, but not bad either.

It's true to me....I didn't fancy his female renderings. Don't take it personally.

The Enchantress Sharon Carter "Can't draw women" isn't true.

I didn't personally like the style, and can't draw are two separate things.

I didn't personally like the style, and can't draw are two separate things. From your Enchantress sample above, if this strikes you as a great drawing of a woman's face, that's awesome....it's awful to me, sorry.

Such a nice smile and evokes a gentler, friendlier time to me. I think it gets across those feelings effectively but I have to admit I've never really liked this particular rendition of the character. It looks to me like something he dashed off quickly, almost more like a caricature than a character-piece. But that's just me. In general I do like Kirby's female characters, especially from this mid 60s to early 70s period - Crystal, Medusa, the earlier versions of Karnilla, Barda, Beautiful Dreamer, etc. I do find it puzzling that a lot of readers see no difference between the ones I find attractive and the ones I agree are a little sketchier, but I've given up trying to figure it out or to convince anyone with samples that apparently all look the same to their eyes.

Well, Kirby was no Ditko, but I still think he did a nice job on this one

Well, for those who did not like pin-ups in Marvel's comics, there's no better remedy for the bad memories than... Yep--get a book filled with Silver Age pin-up goodness. Personally, I did not have a problem with pin-ups, as I believed they served the same informational purpose as The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe would decades later, since the pin-ups usually included a brief biography and/or description of a character's powers.
