What are some widely disliked costumes that you like, and "iconic" costumes you dont like? For me, the former has to be Daredevil's Black and Red outfit: Definitely very 90s with the silver shoulderpads, but that aside, it's a sleek design that actually fits him well As for the classic costume I dislike, Colossus' "Strongman" outfit It just looks too much like a circus strongman. That may have worked if that was part of his past, but as far as I know it wasnt. I didnt care much for the sleeveless look he had in the 80s either, his best look was the shirtless look actually.

I've always been more of a DC guy than Marvel one, but I've never understood why people don't like Wonder Man's costume. Specifically, either of these: What am I not supposed to like? Is it an outfit which works on a cover but looks bad in story or something? Is it too busy? Too colorful? I thought color and intensity are boons in superhero comics. Gauntlets, wrist bands, cool looking belt - what's not to like? I'll admit that I may never have read a comic with him in it, but I'm not seeing a problem which a lot of people seem to regard as instantly obvious.

^ It looks like something Captain Ultra rejected.
The only Wonder Man costume I ever liked was the red jacket look. He was always saying how he wasn't cut out for the superhero thing and that outfit reflected that. Plus it was the one I was introduced to first.
I hear a lot of people say they don't like it, so I guess that counts as a widely disliked costume that I do like.

Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and I've gotta admit, I don't hate that redesign.

Fully agree: I think they're both fine and never have seen what's meant to be so terrible about them in comparison to superhero costumes in general.

Speaking of Daredevil, I really like the yellow and black Daredevil costume, which seems to be pretty widely disliked. It's an interesting colour scheme and it feels very swashbuckler-y. The red one is definitley better, but I honestly wouldn't mind if he occasionally wore the yellow one, similar to how Spidey alternated between the red and blue suit and the black one for a little while.

For me, the former has to be Daredevil's Black and Red outfit: I don't think the iconic red suit could ever be replaced for good, but I really liked that design. That being said, it required an artist who understood it for it to work (like, say, Thor's armoured look which only Simonson made look good in my opinion). McDaniels was great with the new DD design, but fill-in artists not so much.

I really dislike Red Sonja's iron bikini. I much preferred the chain mail shirt she wore at first, and loved her leather armour (seen in the latter days of Savage Sword of Conan) even more.

I assume at least some Marvel fans thought that wearing your initials on your chest was too "DC" (although there really aren't that many--Superman Family, Robin, Wonder Woman...uh, Geo-Force...). Wonder Man's original costume had the curly filigree on the abdomen, something that always suggested to me that Don Heck designed it. Heck had some very distinctive but not especially good design instincts, and that design is, at the very least, not in keeping with the usual super-hero aesthetic.

Y’know, Wonder Man’s black and red outfit was one of the better redesigns of its era.

I don't hate the Perez version; but, I think it needs refining. The red area over the abdomen doesn't really work for me. Keeping a green all the wat to the trunks gives better symmetry. I don't think the shades used compliment each other as well, either, but that is a limitation of the coloring technology. I liked the original well enough, though I always wondered what the little loops at the abdomen were supposed to be.....a decorative effect? A texture effect? An accident with a laundry marker? It made him look like Captain Spirograph. I did like the red safari jacket look....made him stand out and look like a classic adventurer, like a Doc Savage.

You disliked the bikini outfit? That's it. I'm banning you from posting me a reply for 2 minutes. It's a terrible design for anyone who actually enters combat or wears mail of any sort. Plus, I've known a few woman who have worn chainmail bikinis to do promo work at conventions, and it chafes and pinches areas that shouldn't be chafed or pinched, removing layers of skin in the process. It would distract the person wearing it more than those viewing it and such a person would be unlikely to survive their first battle, not because the armor didn't cover things but because it caused discomfort to the person wearing it leading to them losing focus when they needed to keep theri head (both literally and figuratively. Chain mail usually has several layers of padding under it to make it wearable. Can't do that with a bikini. It may satisfy male gaze (and that is all it does), but it doesn't work as actual mail, looks ridiculous destroying any sense of verisimilitude needed in a story about people swinging swords against supernatural threats, and generally is a terrible design for any reason except titillation. I think everyone who likes the costume should have to spend the day wearing chain mail briefs under their pants to see how it feels. My nominee for iconic costumes I just don't like-Spider-Man's black costume. It just smacks of either laziness or deadline's dictating design rather than aesthetics, and has zero correlation with the established character of Peter Parker. On that gets a lot of dislike but that I don't mind so much (saying I like it might be too strong but I don't dislike it) is the bomber jacket era costumes in the Avengers. -M

I don't know if it was disliked, but I always liked Paladin's costume, except for the color scheme, as he originally debuted... Never been fond of any of the purple and green costumes; but, I like the basic lines, as it says "swashbuckler," which was his personality. I'd just use more traditional military uniform colors, like either a British Rifleman green, with gold accenting, or a deep blue, with white or red trousers, but keep the dragoon kneeboots and the headpiece. I'd use a more military style cape, with a clasp across one shoulder and the chest, like the Austro-Hungarian dress uniforms, which he could detach and use as a weapon, as fencers did. The chestpiece looked good as a bulletproof vest or something similar, in terms of armor and same for the segments on the gauntlets. It got redefined later, with the headpiece replaced by a hood/mask and purple and black coloring and then they gave him more conventional weaponry. I like the energy pistol, though a sleeker design might be better. I'd give him a sword or some kind of energy lance, too. No firearms, which is where they seemed to go, with him. Not a big fan of Thor's costume, but also never really liked the alternates done. I kind of like more of the other Asgardian costumes that Kirby created, like on the Warriors Three and Baldur and some of the background types. Not exactly fitting the theme, but I always preferred the way that Dave Cockrum drew Cyclops' visor and buccaneer boots, vs Byrne and Paul Smith, or anyone else and detest the Jim Lee and subsequent designs.
