TOJO is planning on making a GODZILLA Film in 2016
From Hollywood Reporter
by Gavin J. Blair 12/7/2014 5:39pm PDT
Japan's Toho is to produce its first Godzilla film since 2004, following the success of this year's release from Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the original monster announced Monday.
"This is very good timing after the success of the American version this year: if not now, then when? The licensing contract we have with Legendary places no restrictions on us making domestic versions," a Toho staffer told The Hollywood Reporter.
The Gareth Edwards-directed Legendary version took more than $500 million globally and topped the Japanese box office on its opening weekend.
Japan's Internet giant SoftBank invested $250 million in Legendary in Oct following the breakdown of negotiations to buy DreamWorks Animation.
Budget, cast and director for what will be the 29th installment from Toho have yet to be decided, according to the studio. Production is slated to begin in summer 2015 and the film will be aimed at the global market.
Although Toho concedes it can't match $200 million Hollywood-size budget, advances in CG will allow it to create a film that can stand alongside such productions, according to a release from the studio.
The first Godzilla film was released by Toho in 1954, with the last from the storied Japanese studio Godzilla: Final Wars coming exactly half a century later in 2004. The franchise has been recognized by the Guinness World Records 2015 as the longest running in global cinematic history.
Toho also announced the formation of a Godzilla Strategic Conference (Godzi-Con), consisting of executives and directors that will look for ways to leverage the Godzilla brand through merchandising and other activities. The launch of Godzi-Con suggests that Toho is planning on creating a new Godzilla series, though the studio will not confirm anything beyond the 2016 film.
Edwards is set to direct the next Legendary Godzilla film, set for release in 2018.

Gamera vs. Barugon (1966) aka War of the Monsters The second Gamera film and the first in color is actually an excellent sequel with tons of exciting action. Barugon's eyes look a bit silly but aside from that the model work and special effects look pretty good for what they are. The fights scenes are really well done. The story itself is engaging and it's well paced enough to keep viewers interested.

King Kong Lives (1986) Sequel to the 1976 remake and starts with footage from the ending of that movie featuring Jeff Bridges, Jessica Lange and the tragic death of King Kong. It immediately jumps to a group of scientists lead by Linda Hamilton operating on the giant ape. Back on the island a giant female gorilla is discovered whose blood can be used to save Kong's life. Not nearly as good as its predecessor and kind of boring in parts but there are some pretty cool visuals like the scientists performing a heart transplant on King Kong and a good bit of action. I wouldn't recommend his one unless you plan on just laughing at the absurdity of it in which case it was kind of fun.

Daimajin (1966) I was impressed with this and thought the story, acting and production value were a bit better than some other giant monster movies from the same time period. There's samurai battles, political intrigue, suspense and a rampaging spirit that possesses the body of a giant stone statue. During a violent coup a feudal lord is killed and his children are forced to escape with a samurai and a priestess to a forbidden territory where a dangerous spirit is trapped within the mountain. Ten years later the villagers are being tortured and forced into slavery. After the Majin's stone idol is desecrated it goes on a rampage and won't stop until a kind act is committed. I'm looking forward to watching the other films in this trilogy.

so, Ultraman is ultra kaiju (a word used often in the original Japanese dialogue), and has gone through nearly as many iterations as gojira.
i love half of it all, which is a lot; the Nippon/Aussie co-production with an Anglo Ultra is pretty dire, though.
obviously the 1st 2 seasons are fab, the following iteration is groovy, Ultra Man Dyna is fun, but Mebius is my fave apart from the first 30 eps in the 60's. it has great kaiju but a lovely x-men 1978 'we're all family' here vibe.
