Crying over another senseless mass shooting. Yup, and already the partisans are lining up to assign blame to the other side for this. Was he a racist gun nut, or an atheist Hillary supporter, or... ...who give a f@#$? 26 people were killed this morning, with many others injured, so rather than playing "pin the guilt on the donkey or elephant", how about we, as a nation, reflect on the fact that we, who have barely had time to process and deal with the Las Vegas shooting, now have to dig almost 30 new graves for people who were needlessly gunned down by yet another jackass wielding guns capable of doing more damage than is necessary for hunting, sport shooting, or personal protection? I used to stay out of thr 2nd Amendment argument, as I didn't have a dog in that fight, but I'm done with that. Take every last gun in the country and melt it down to make a monument to the lives lost because an organization like the NRA puts politicians from both sides into its pockets, politicians who are too afraid to do what is right because it means an end to the free money gravy train and a possible loss in the next election cycle. I believe the US needs strict term limits and needs to pay these assholes nothing more than is minimally necessary to ensure they get into politics to serve, not to be served, and to enrich the lives of the American people, not their own bank accounts. I am keeping myself pissed off tonight, because I feel if I let this anger pass for even a moment, it will turn to apathy or malaise again and I'm done with that. This world needs change agents, not get-along guys, so I'm going after anybody and everybody, regardless of political party, who refuses to be part of the solution by continuing to be part of the problem.

Just got back form the library and lunch with my wife, and trying to decide what to dive into for the afternoon-Joe Hill's new collection of 4 short novellas, Strange Weather; season 1 of Westworld on DVD, season one of American Gods on DVD, Baby Driver on blue ray, or the new Black Panther prose novel, all of which came home from the library with me.

Drinking a Macallan 12 year old double cask scotch.
It's good but a bit understated.

I love scotch, though I usually drink bourbon because of the price disparity between good scotch and good bourbon. I'll probably hold this to one glass every couple of weeks to make it last.

I'll probably hold this to one glass every couple of weeks to make it last. I really love a shot of whisky -- not that I drink it all that often, but I do enjoy the odd wee dram from time to time. However, I only had proper American bourbon for the first time about three weeks ago in a pub in Brighton. The brand of bourbon I had was Bulleit Bourbon, which is marketed as "Frontier Whiskey" and distilled in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. I have no idea whether Bulleit is a good make or not, but I have to say that, to me, it tasted like a slightly sweeter and rougher Scottish Whisky. I'll admit that I'm no Whiskey connoisseur -- I prefer blends to single malts, for example -- but yeah, it didn't seem to be very much different to Whisky distilled in the UK to my taste buds, which I was a little disappointed at.

I would say that slightly sweeter and rougher than scotch is a good initial thought for the difference between bourbon and scotch. Bulleit is a decent mid-grade bourbon. I actually prefer Bulleit Rye (which is a different kettle of fish). The technical difference is that for it to be bourbon it has to have at least 51% corn in the mash whereas Scotch is mostly malted barley. Probably the go-to initial bourbon (now) is Makers Mark, which is definitely sweeter. Bulleit has a higher rye content than most bourbon's so it's bit spicier than the standard bourbon. The great thing about bourbon is you can get a ton of great bourbons for under $30 a bottle, which is not something you can do with scotch, at least not in the U.S.

Working on the studio/comic room today. Painting mostly today, got second coat on the parts I painted last week before the kidney stone procedure, but the damp rainy day means everything is taking longer to dry, so I am not sure if I can tape up the parts I need to before painting the next section today or if I have to let it dry overnight before doing so (the next section is the ceiling in the studio side of the room, which means the tops of the wall need to be taped as it is a different color. Also got a large chunk of the walls in the stairwell painted too. Hopes are to have the studio side done this weekend, so I can start moving all the fixtures and shelving units out of the comic room side and start there.

I'm watching Blakes 7 episode " Mission to Destiny". I love a bit of Blakes 7. I grew up watching that show as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s.

I recorded all 52 episodes on a public access channel that showed many BBC shows in the early 80's. What a great series.
