A good ambience and the place must look clean and professional.
Love a good food court too, with lots of choices so you can have something different every day for about 2 weeks and not get bored.

Sometimes little things matter. Wetherspoons is a pub chain here that does reasonably priced meals (if you’re on a low budget). But they no longer do rump steaks, only sirloin steaks. Sirloin steaks are my least favourite cut of steak, so I’ll eat there less whenever I feel like eating out.
I have to say, post-lockdown, I did try a burger from Five Guys. They did a burger far, far better than I ever could. Sure, I could have bought a burger for £2 and cooked it, but they did it better.

I would never pay to eat sirloin steak in a restaurant under any circumstances. It's just such an inferior cut of meat. I will occasionally buy them for home use if I'm making finger steaks or if I want to do steak sandwiches on the cheap. But overall I just say no.

I could tolerate it if I got a cheap cut from the mini-market and just needed nutrition at home, but, like you, certainly not in a restaurant.
Hmm, steak sandwiches. Not sure I’ve ever done that. Might try it.

At this life stage of full time work and small kids, we eat out mostly for convenience. It's a meal that's ready that we don't have to prepare or clean after.
When we do go out recreationally, I tend to just go based on what I'm in the mood for. Whether I can make it at home doesn't factor in much because for whatever reason, this time I'm not doing so.
Though if I want something like India, Vietnamese, Chinese or Thai, I will probably order out. I don't know how to make it, and I don't keep the ingredients even if I did, so by the time I buy it all I may as well have just gone out.
Secondarily, I also like atmosphere and socializing, but as said above, if the food sucks or is too expensive, that doesn't matter.
Garlic is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Vegetables cooked in bacon grease are delightful. Or wrapped in bacon. Or roasted and seasoned like bacon.
I like broccoli less as an adult than I did as a kid.

Although it’s rare for me to do so, I will order takeaway if it’s something I don’t feel qualified to cook. Although I have been trying to do more unique cooking this year.
I’m making potato and leek soup for someone soon (a friend), so wish me luck. I doubt even I can mess up potato and leek soup!

Might try it. Sear it hard on both sides until it's med-rare, slice it cross-grain and pile on good toast or a good cut roll or baguette. I tend to do sautéed mushrooms, onions and peppers on mine. A little arugula is nice. My wife usually wants melted cheese on hers.

Thank you very much, I will attempt to replicate that. Good idea!

Thank you very much, I will attempt to replicate that. Good idea! I firmly believe the sandwich is the perfect food. My youngest son is pretty on board with that. I generally will take the turkey or ham from holiday meals and stuff them into my rolls turning them into a makeshift sammich.

My wife knows that if bread and meat appear on my plate, a sandwich will be made. It's expected. That steak sandwich looks really good.
Chipotle guacamole is the best I've had and is very easy to replicate. I had it at home for lunch. So good.

I used to love 5 guys when you could get the burger fries and a drink for $9 ish dollars, now it cost almost $20 and its seems close to fast food than good burgers than it used to be. I VERY rarely sit down at a restaurant, I'm not interested in paying extra for a waiter/waitress and ambience. When I eat out I'm either looking for cheap and convienent because I don't feel like cooking or something I can't do myself for a reasonable price. Big fan of buffets

Heresy, heresy, I say! Garlic is the one that's straight out of the devil's garden. It even reeks of sulfur! Thor = me

(...) Garlic is the one that's straight out of the devil's garden. It even reeks of sulfur! (...) Yeah, since Prince Hal brought this up again, I can understand not liking the flavor or aroma of garlic (I used to have that deformity when I was a little kid), but I just can't wrap my head around the comparison to sulfur - there's just no hint of it in garlic, whether fresh or cooked (baked, sauteed, whatever...). I think you're having an olfactory malfunction, RR...

My friend, science backs me up!"Garlic contains approximately 33 sulfur compounds (aliin, allicin, ajoene, allylpropyl disulfide, diallyl trisulfide, sallylcysteine, vinyldithiines, S-allylmercaptocystein, and others) ... (Newall et al., 1996)." The main reason garlic and onion give one bad breath is that noisome element. I do not begrudge garlic-lovers their inexplicable love for the plant, but the further it stands from my kitchen, the happier I feel.
