Some of this week's reads- Midnight Suns #5-series finale. I liked the premise and the cast, but the series was ultimately underwhelming. It seems to whole point was to "kill" Agatha Harkness and bring her back de-aged to match the MCU version. The plot and cast drew on elements of Strange Academy, which I really like, but this lacked that series charm. Doctor Strange Fall Sunrise #3-I don't think I've read a Doc story this trippy since What Is It that Disturbs You Stephen? PCR's retelling of Doc Annual #1 from the late 90s, and this definitely evokes the feel of Ditko's more psychedelic Doc stories. It's a hell of a ride. I'm not sure I know where it's going, and it feels like we might crash at any moment, but I am enjoying the ride. -M Yeah, I couldn't stick with Midnight Suns despite enjoying the cast and premise, it's pacing was just so bad it wasn't funny so I only made it to #3 before bowing out. I might have to check out Fall Sunrise though, that sounds like fun.

That's what got me to drop Cantwell's Iron Man book.. Frogman was the best TONY STARK could do to help him fight Korvac? Really? That was part of my problem with Cantwell’s IM, although a bigger issue was the length of the Korvac story. It just went on and on and on... If you’re going to tell a story like that, with a singular “Big Bad”, do what a TV show like Supernatural did. Have your main season theme running at all times, so while Korvac is only plotting and scheming in the background over two pages of issue #X, have the primary story be Tony kicking the crap out of Spymaster or Beetle or Ghost while wondering what Korvac might be planning next. Otherwise, it just feels interminably long and boring dealing with the same threat, in a decompressed manner, month after month. That pacing issue is something I've increasingly had with comics in the last few years. Writing for the trade isn't new and sometimes decompressed storytelling really does a great job of selling character growth but while writers in the past like Grant Morrison, Brian Bendis and Mark Waid or Mark Millar were able to make it feel like individual stories were intertwined into one larger narrative these newer writers literally just stretch one story into 6 sometimes even 12 parts which just kills me. The way I see it is like this: a story like Batman: Year One took four issues to tell and it's now an evergreen book that is a cornerstone story of Batman's mythos, so if your story is going to be more than four issues long I think you really need to ask yourself, "Is this story going to be more influential than Year One?" and if the answer is "no" then I think the editor should be telling the writer think about pacing their story differently. And it's not necessarily a question of quality either, it's cost and time too. If a three part story is bad I'm only out 12 bucks and in a couple of months a new story will start and maybe I'll like that one better...but if it's 6-12 issues we're talking about 24-48 bucks and 6 months to a year which is a long time to have to wait and hope you like the next story better. It just seems like a poor choice to me.

Moon Knight as the only current book that I pick up that I really look forward to. I just finished Moon Knight and man was it awesome! Sure, the idea of a villain going after all a heroes past known associates has been done before but the energy of rushing around the city trying to save the team was really fun and the use of Marc's alternate ID's was well done. For my money though the back up with Blade was the best part; I loved idea using an alternate past Moon Knight in order to bring a 70's team up between Blade and Moon Knight into continuity and the way it tied into the present with Reese is something I look forward to see develop.

no...my pull list has drastically changed for 2023. Cut way back? Just a little. Dropped titles that were on the fence to make room for some new titles.
