Hi all, So growing up my dad had a handful of comics and being the youngest of six, when he got them they were always tattered and the covers ripped off. The fine folks Here helped me track down a Mighty Marvel Western he recalled and well today he remembered this…. About 1965 to 1975 Comic had about 3 stories in it. In one a robot was delivered down into a mine. The tough lead miner thought it was going to replace the men and ripped wires out of it and slammed it into a support causing a cave in. Trapped & using the emergency phone he learned it was a rescue robot and unless he could repair it he would run out of air before they could save him. At this point it was "to be continued ". Looking for what comic & possibly to find what happened. The robot was sort of humanoid with caterpillar tracks for feet with a big spike or chisel sticking straight out from the chest. I don't think it was on the cover. Im going to embark on a hunt in an hour or so but figured until then maybe some super sleuths out there could beat me to it

I have zeroed in on Strange Adventure as being a possible anthology series from the time period...no luck yet. Was it known for having some stories be two parters? Dad was pretty adamant that the ending was a cliffhanger, suggesting a following issue would conclude it (which I thought was odd for an anthology series but I have not read enough from this era to know)

Take a look at Tales of Suspense #18. It doesn't exactly match the visual description you gave, but very close on story:

Also, it was reprinted in Monsters on the Prowl #20 (1972) which fits more in the timeframe you gave. Another note, the story here is not a 2-parter, but does end with a "time is running out" scene and does not show what happens next.

Sadly, he does not think this is it. Says the art and appearance of the robot don't match his memory. I mean, he could very well be thinking of a robot from another story (he is adamant about the caterpiller tracks and giant spike or something protruding from the chest). He must have read this story in some capacity in his life though because everything else lines up exactly....unless another comic copied the story exactly but changed the robot's appearance?

pinkfloydsound17 - I looked up TOS #18 in the GCD and it has this note: "This same story, credited to Gary Friedrich, was re-used in Tower of Shadows #2 (November 1969)". edit: I found an image. I think this is it. Tower of Shadows #2, story "Look Out, Wyatt... Automation's Gonna Get Your Job!" by Gary Friedrich, John Buscema & John Verpoorten.

Nice work Rob! The story sounded familiar to me from my vague recollection of the original, did not know it was later remade.

I would never have found it without @jaska's post about Tales of Suspense #18. This was truly a Marvelous Team-Up!

Yeah I was deep down the DC rabbit hole personally, examining stories from their anthology style books

I'm glad I could at least provide an "assist" on this one When I read the description, I didn't immediately place it, but my "Ditko sense" did go off and a quick search confirmed that hunch for the earlier version of the story. pinkfloydsound17 - so glad it worked out!
