My 2 cents on the omnibus matter, I usually only buy them if it is the only way to get the material and that is rarely the case (or if they are really cheap such as me finding them at Ollie's). But with the Golden Age Batman and Superman stuff, the later volumes are the only collections of most of that material. The early volumes got tpb releases, but the later volumes did not. Some of the stuff may be in Archives, but those are OOP and pricey (as are the later omnibus volumes now). Same is true for some (but not all) of the Silver Age stuff they did. For example I have the early Superman stuff in The Chronicles papaerbacks they did, so no need to buy Vol. 1 and 2 of the Golden Age omnibi, but Vol. 3 on I was game for (don't have them all). The Batman stuff I have the 1st 3, but missed Vol. 4-9 which are now outrageously priced in the aftermarket and little chance of ever getting paperback collections unless the new line they are launching later this year gets around to it, but I doubt they will. But most stuff from the SA-present can be had in other formats or in single issues for less money and easier reading.
To read an omnibus though, I need to be seated at a table with the book on the table or a lectern to read, not holding it as I read it in a chair, so it does limit opportunities to read it.
That said, there is a whole omnibus collector subculture out there who only buy comics in omnibus editions* now that is large enough to make the format viable for the most part for publishers, so I don't think it's going away any time soon.
-M
*They may also dabble in deluxe hardcovers and/or Absolute Editions of oversized hardcovers but stick to those big oversized hardcover formats for their comic purchases. Discussions among those collectors often center around which shelving (particularly Ikea) is best for holding and displaying those big editions. Those kind of discussion dominated the resurrected version of our old forum at our former home before migrating to a number of youtube channel dedicated to discussing and showing off those formats and discussing collecting them. It's akin to the subsection of collectors who only buy slabbed books in that their interest is limited to a particular type of book, and doesn't stray outside that for any reason and matters like readability is not a factor for them.

I have a number of Marvel omnibuses, including four volumes of the Fantastic Four, Frank Miller's Daredevil, Captain America etc. I like how many comics you get in each one, but as others have mentioned, their weight makes them a pain to read. I prefer a Masterworks volume or Epic TPB from an ease of reading perspective. But I will definitely buy omnibuses again -- pretty sure FF Vol 5 is coming out later this year.

I decided to finally go for it and last night ordered the recently released first volume Micronauts omnibus. Amazon hooked me up and it was at my door at 8AM this morning. It's the collection I never thought we would see released and one of my most wanted for many years. It contains the first 29 issues of the original Marvel series plus the first 2 annuals, all material I have the originals of but now I have a crisp reading copy that looks great on the eyes (sometimes my old beloved original copies of comics from the 70's and 80's are sadly a little blurred here and there). The quality really looks great just flipping through the volume, the margins are good and see my additional comments below on the coloring. Best of all, it's a "slim omnibus" at only 744 pages which I find much more comfortable to read than those much thicker tomes I just can't sit comfortably with (and I've tried all the suggestions with those, they just don't work for me). So with NO plans on this fine lazy Sunday morning, I am signing off to revisit an old favorite, definitely going to be a cover to cover read! If Rom and The Micro-Nauts ever get the Epic Collection treatment like Master Of Kung-Fu did, I'll scoop them up in a heartbeat. I'm kind of done with omnis after how big Man-Thing turned out to be Would you go so far as to say it was Giant-Sized?

So, a few weeks ago, in another thread I asked anyone here if they were familiar with the Marlowe 'graphic novel' published back in 2003 by ibooks (Byron Preiss strikes, or rather struck, again) and whether it was worth picking up; no answers were forthcoming, and I decided to risk it, given that I stumbled onto a roughly $10 used copy from an online seller in the UK. It arrived today, while a few days earlier the mailman brought the other, better known Chandler graphic adaptation, The Little Sister (purchased from an eBay seller in Germany): I'll have a definitive answer as to whether or not the former book was worth getting when I get around to reading it, but just based on its condition (absolutely pristine - no signs of any previous use) and the art I saw when flipping through it (I'll post images when I get around to scanning a few pages), it was more than worth it, esp. given the price. It's a very nice-looking and beautifully packaged book.

Omnibi really are difficult to read, at least the really thick ones. Those, I tend to sit in bed with a pillow in my lap to read them. These Rom and Micronauts ones seem slim enough to read in other ways, but I’m still waiting for my box.

This is another of my highly sought after issues. This book completes the Jack Kirby New Gods 11 issue series.

I also bought a 20 issue Jack Kirby fourth world set. It's only missing issue #15.

It includes a gallery book. You do know that that series is a continuation of the mid-'90s New Gods series storyline, right? So technically, there's 15 issues in the preceding series before #1 of Kirby's Fourth World was published.

Byrne takes it over from 12 -15, then it becomes the series I bought.
