Highlights include: 1st Arms Falling Off Boy 1st Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl/Wonder Tot team-up Early Aqualad and Wonder Girl stories 1st Captain Marvel (Mar-Vel) in new costume 102 Disney Ducks books from the Gemstone Era (my personal favorite post-Barks) 52 Superman books taking my Post-Crisis run that previously ended in early 1993 up to late 1994 with a few gaps. My favorite era of Groo, beginning with the 1st appearance of Rufferto (21 issues with no gaps) 27 utterly random books that only I could be excited about 10 run-filler issues of Alpha Flight 22 classic Bronze Age Archie books 7 Silver Age Superboy books 7 Silver Age Star Trek books Nice haul...and even more importantly, it sounds like it was a fun day comic hunting. But..."Arms Falling Off Boy"?? Is that a real thing? Comics are weird.

That's one I might try to get some dibs on maybe in 2024, Creepy #1 as well. I pick up the Archive collections when I get them at a good price (like $15 or less).

I ordered a few more 1970s to 1980s issues of Batman ...
Batman #254 (100-Page Super-Spectacular, guest-starting Man-Bat)
Batman #313 (first appearance of Timothy Fox, which I guess is a big deal or something)
Batman #320
Batman #326
Discovietnam had an interesting critique of Batman Annual #10 in the Batman: 1979 to 2011 thread. It sounds like something I should read. So I ordered that as well.
And then I checked the dealer’s other offerings to make the postage worthwhile and I got Super Powers #4 and #5.

I've bought a lot of comics since I was last here in June. Gem City Comic Con was right after I left, and I did a Jim & Dan show and Champion City Comic Con as well, plus Garage Con run by the organizer of GCC and CCCC at his house, plus my regular auction groups and some store based sales events. I'll post some of the highlights in the coming days, but here's just a peek at the volume-this was from my dealer friend in the Chicago area that I buy form and trade with frequently-almost a full long box of stuff came my way that he brought with him when he set up at Gem City and which came home with me... and this is what came home from a day trip to Dayton that included a stop at Bell, Book & Comic that was having a warehouse sale (an entire warehouse filled with shelves of longboxes for $1 each and tables of vintage paperbacks also $1 each), a Half Price Books and a delightful Greek restaurant. I didn't take individual pics of either box, but you can see a few highlights in each box. -M

I didn't do individual pics of the haul, but I did do a pic of the spread of books I got at Gem City Comic Con. Highlights included an early Frazetta story in Heroic Comics the Toth Flash/Atom issue of B&B, the Lennon Sisters by Toth in Four Color, a few Frazetta Warren covers, several Kubert DC war books, the last issue of Xenozoic Tales I needed, an affordable Marvel Godzilla #1, I had a limited budget and the Frazetta Heroic was a big chunk of it, but overall I got ome books I really dug. -M

One of the comics I had on my radar for a long time was a 'zine called Cosmic Sorcery. I had inquired about it here just before I left, and during the summer I found an affordable copy on ebay and pulled the trigger... it wound up being more interesting than good in terms of stories, but there is a lot of good art in it in the form of pin ups and such, the original stories in it though were not quite all that though. -M

SO one of the sale events I went to was at Bookery Fantasy in Fairborn. They had bought several collections for the high end books, but were clearing out the filler form those collections at 99 cents a book, and had about 8 tables of longboxes available. I went the second day of the sale and spent an afternoon digging through the boxes and came home with this... I also picked up 1 priced back issue while I was there for $5 but I managed to complete my Adventures in the DCU run and almost finish y run of the 1st 50 issues of Legends of the Dark Knight (was only missing #16?-the 1st app of the Venom drug that created Bane, & #50 with a Joker cover/story). The same day I had stopped by my lcs (Super Fly Comics & Games in Yellow Springs) to pick up my pulls, but they had a box of $1 trades, including several press advance release copies of some stuff that went to reviewers, such as that Castle Waiting volume, that were not available to the general public, and I brought home these... -M

Oh, this HC of the Newsboy Legion was in with those $1 trades I've also won a few things through the Lonestar auction and picked up some filler stuff to round out some of the orders. Here's a sampling of some of the stuff I've gotten over the last 5-6 months... snagged another issue of Wally Wood's 'zine Witzend (#4) a '50s Frazetta cover White Comanche had been on my radar for a while, I had no idea it was the first in a trilogy of books until I saw parts 2 and 3 in the Lonestar auction. I got outbid on those, but the next week they had a lot of the entire trilogy, which I won. Some of the filler included more Kubert war books the last issue of Lost Continent I needed (a really good American translation of a Japanese manga) More later... -M

One last entry of acquisitions for now. In July, I decided to purge some toys that were just in storage and not being enjoyed and took a batch down to Toy Fan Addict near Dayton. It's located next to an Ollie's in the shopping plaza. Tony, the proprietor also has a decent selection oc back issues in his shop, so I used a little of what I got for the toys to pick up a handful of back issues, and hit the Ollie's and picked up a few comic related things as well. Among the back issues I got that day were the following: An I W Publishing version of a classic 50s Kubert horror story a bunch of Disney Ducks some other miscellaneous books all of those were $1-$3 except the Mystery Tales which was $4. These were in his 50 cent bin Over at the Ollies I got the following An edition of Frankenstein that includes some (but not all) of Wrightson's illustrations originally done for the version published by Marvel an OGN I had never heard of illustrated by Dave McKean and this Batman/Mignola project trade... -M

A lot of nice stuff, but I'm still amazed that those Black Hoods with Fox stories are still in dollar boxes. Not only are they 40(!) years old, but they contain outstanding, essentially free-standing, stories by Toth at the top of his game.

I have 2-3 copies of each issue now. and I have been giving them to folks who I think will appreciate them when I have the chance. -M
