Historically, my comics purchasing goes down drastically every December as I allocate more disposable income toward Christmas charity projects.
However, I did make a small purchase last week, and of course it's the usual mish-mash of genres that you've come to expect from my posts. I showed most of these on our Zoom call this weekend, but posting here for others to see.
Most expensive book in the lot is a beautiful copy of Fantastic Four #35-- I gave 30 bucks for it and felt like I got a deal because it was severely under-graded price-wise. What's more, I also got Capt. Savage #1 (first appearance, I think), #2 and #10-- also all in fantastic shape, and I paid 20 bucks total for all three of them.
I also picked up another classic 70's B&W horror mag, again in quite respectable condition--
Two high-grade issues of Weird Worlds for cheap, as well as a Challengers issue, and Superman #424...
Last, the oddball stuff-- a nice copy of the Tales Calculated to Drive You Bats '67 one-shot, a Charlton issue of My Little Margie that is one of the cleanest 10-cent Charltons that I have ever seen, and another copy of Spider-Ham (7 left to go to complete the series), and last, an unmolested copy of Marvel Fun & Games #2.

Classic Comics Press is having a sale (I can't find the sale thread) so I decided to pull the trigger on some classic strip collections. I got Warren Tufts' Lance and Casey Ruggles Vol. 1 for essentially half price. I also picked up Dondi Vol. 2 for about 60% off cover. This significantly less than I've seen any of these volumes for on Amazon over the years. There were some other books I'd have liked to have picked up (Big Ben Volt) but some of them just weren't quite enough off for this guy.

Those are some sweet pickups @slam_Bradley! Both are on my list for later this year if the new job goes well and I remain employed and able to splurge on comic books again.

What's more, I also got Capt. Savage #1 (first appearance, I think) Just a small note - Capt. Savage first appeared way back in Sgt. Fury #10. I believe this is the first appearance of most or all of his Leatherneck Raiders, though.

Thanks for the clarification... I wasn't really sure.

He's not actually named in Sgt. Fury #10 even though he has a pretty big role. I'm not sure when he got his name - he appeared in several issues of Sgt. Fury, basically whenever the group needed a ship for a mission, Captain Savage would sail them to the destination. In Captain Savage #1 they take him off his ship and for some reason put a Navy Captain in direct command of a group of Marine commandoes. I don't think that's how anything worked in the war, but maybe the military has a different structure in the 616.

Where's the Menominee Falls Gazette!?!? That was a great...tabloid. If you can find them (and they used to be fairly cheap) Fantagraphics' magazine Nemo, the Classic Comics Library was a great combo of comic strip history and strip reprints, though the reproduction frequently left much to be desired.

My first exposure to the Menominee Falls Gazette was when it had been compacted and enfolded into the Comic Reader. I really enjoyed it.

My very awesome wife just surprised me with these two volumes as early holiday gifts. She knew I wanted both (I have the older edition of the Batman one, but this version has a lot more content), and wanted me to be able to read and enjoy them since I'm already on vacation. Time to sign off from the interwebz for the day and dive in! Also have a couple of back issue orders I'm excited about arriving soon, the Silver Age ones should be here tomorrow, if so will post up some images.

After getting it from the library every so often I finally got my own copy a few months ago. I was reading a story every night for weeks.
