Never heard of Steve Canyon, or Milton Caniff, but I like that cover art. Caniff was one of the comic strip masters. He created Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon, two of the most beloved and enduring syndicated newspaper strips from the golden age of strips. If you ever get a chance to read the collection of interviews Will Eisner did over the years that are collected in the book Shop Talk, the interview with Canniff is absolutely fascinating reading. -M

Is that a trade for the old Firestorm series? Neat.. didn't think such a thing existed! Yes it is! And it even has a/the 6th issue that apparently wasn't published/something-to-that-effect (I could be completely wrong on this as I used google for my info). I'm SO GLAD I found this because when I originally looked into reading Firestorm, I wanted his original '78 series, but the singles can go for quite a bit more than I am willing to pay. Now, I just need to find #7 and #23 for less than the price of a bodily organ of his '82 series, and I can start getting that in as well. I have 1-4 of that series, but I need MORE. It's great, imo.

I didn't realize any of that series had any value... I got them a ways back out of the quarter bin.

I didn't realize any of that series had any value... I got them a ways back out of the quarter bin. They got a speculation bump when Ronnie Raymond was announced as being part of the Flash series. #1 can go for upwards of $50 now. There's a CGC 9.6 on mycomicshop for $292 now though. So yeah, it took off. How long the bump lasts, we'll see. -M

I just picked up a copy of "Best Comics Of The Decade vol. 2" signed and sketched by Jaime Hernandez. It's been on eBay for years with no bites, but the price has gone down a bit so I got it at $20.

I didn't realize any of that series had any value... I got them a ways back out of the quarter bin. The '82 series or his first series? #7 has the first appearance of a character, and I'm not sure why #23 is more expensive? I wish I could just buy the second series in TPB. Floppies get put away in long boxes here which are not always convenient for me to get to (unless I temporarily just shelf the series like I do with Alpha Flight), so it may be a while until I get to it. The reason I even remembered and pulled the four issues of Firestorm and read them was because I was going through my books to pull duplicates to give away. I'm glad I found and pulled them, though, because I really like those first four issues. A LOT.

If so, I am pretty sure most of his first series/mini was going for a lot back last winter/spring when I went searching for Firestorm books. It was expensive then, so I ended up getting books from his second series because they were much more affordable. When was the announcement that he was going to appear in the Flash show made? I always buy my comics from Lone Star, and when looking for books in series, I go to them because they typically have what I am looking for (since I do not really get into rare books). They've only ticked me off once, but I usually find their prices reasonable (not that I really know any better?) and the care they put into their packaging is amazing, imo. And if I order something that they had listed in stock, but find it's out of stock, they have been honest and fair. I'm glad they exist because if not, I'd be screwed for books since I really dislike ordering from ebay. And my local shop is pretty useless for old back issues.

When I priced up a Firestorm #1 from the '78 series last summer ('13) for the shop, the going rate for a VF/NM copy was $15. After the Flash TV show announcement it jumped to $50 and is still on the uptick.
As fr the '82 series, #1 is still a $5 book or so.
#7 is first app of Plastique
#23 is first appearance of Felicity Smoak now featured on the Arrow series.

And that's because I'm not the kind of collector who does. I'm barely a casual collector. And a newbie at that.

I have a friend that has Firestorm #1 from the '78 series and his would be graded an NM grade and he would be shocked that I told him that. I will share your post mrp and proceed from there.

It's good stuff up through about issue 50 or so, when then it gets kinda weird.

I'm used to all Firestorm series' being quarter bin fodder. They have been since the day they were first published.

But since I do a lot of the back issue grading/pricing for the local shop I try to stay aware of the trends to help the owner make sure he is getting a fair market price on stuff and then can haggle from a position of knowing the market and his customer base. Doesn't always work though. -M
