Came across an extraordinary find in a thrift store a couple of days ago - a signed copy of Jack Kirby: Heroes and Villains from 1987. I had no idea what it was when I picked it up - the cover is all black with the title embossed in same - and was hoping that I'd find a collection of old reprinted stories contained within. What I found was about 130 pages of black and white sketches of everyone from Superman and Spider-Man and Doctor Doom to The Fighting American, Blastaar, The Invincible Man, and, well... pretty much any character he worked on and some he didn't. It's a limited edition reproduction of a sketchbook he gave his wife (mine is numbered 461/1000) and it's signed. I paid $15 for it and found only two copies online for sale - one asking for $450 and the other $1500. Not something which happens often to me and if I didn't know that the store from which I purchased it doesn't actually send the money they make from their sales to their affiliated charity (they instead weigh all donations when they come in and then send a percentage based on that to the charity) I'd feel pretty skeezy about it. Anyone know what this book generally goes for or is it too scarce to really pinpoint? That's a great find. I love stories like this. I guess this really is a niche hobby or else the store might have known what they had.

a quick ebay search of sold items shows one that sold for $499.95.. but just the one, and that in July.
Seems like there's a pb version as well taht seems a bit less rare (but only a bit.. 3 sold in the last few months). One sold WITH a hc copy for $153, but that was in australia, so not sure if they had restrictions.

Thanks for the head's up - I had found a bit of info on the later softcover, unsigned edition and found that those list for just under $100 which really makes me wonder what I have here.

Last two weeks of the FB auctions wins from the Gem City group. There will be no auctions in October, as Jesse preps for Champion City Comic Con on the 31st (Halloween) here in my neck of the woods, so these will be the last I get until November from there. Most sets were #2, most singles were $1, but there were exceptions. Nothing was more than $5 (the Piracy lot and the Warren Lord of the Rings issue). A few things are of more recent vintage. Some Gemstone EC reprints... some go-go check DC romance books... some random newer stuff in the mix... something I have been on the hunt for for a long time, it's beat up, but I have it now... a random Disney Duck issue... and one more set, a Garth Ennis war book... That's it for these two weeks. Still have a chunk of trade credit, so none of there were actually out of pocket. -M

Got these 2 in the mail. That leaves me with 17 issues to complete the first series. This is an 60 issue seres and the last 40 are often priced a bit high. It makes me shake my head , as I don't really think it's a key run.

Was a big fan of that Cap run in real time, though the green colored Iron Man helmet still bugs me every time I see it lol

I have that entire Cap run where he loses the Uniform to the Government. Great run.

My next post will have more of them, and there's still three more issues to hunt down. I'm not getting the whole run, but a "representative sample".
PS: yeah, they fumbled the shadow on that Iron Man helmet, didn't they?
