Is that some special crossover, or is Godzilla considered part of the Marvel Universe? edit: I know he had a Marvel series, but I assumed it was like Star Wars. It's in the MU, though I don't think Godzilla himself made any appearances outside of his own title, no doubt for licensing reasons. but lots of Mu characters appeared in Godzilla, and there were Godzilla characters who crossed over into other books, most notably the giant robot Red Ronin.

I picked up Strange Adventures #205-213 and Batman And Grendal: Devil's Dance while browsing during Free Comic Book Day. Well, in the latter I didn't actually buy Batman and Grendal, when I got to the register and was handing over the books the guy said to me, "Woo, that's a bit damaged huh?" It had a small flaw on the cover that looked like it once had a sticker on it that was latter pulled off but it was only 50 cents and the interior was perfectly readable so it seemed worth more than fair for 50 cents and I told him as much to which he replied, "It'd be a crime to even sell it at that!" I laughed, thanked him and forked over the cash and left with out even glancing at the receipt. When I got home carrying my bag my girl friend groaned and asked how much I spent this time and for the first time I read the receipt to tell her how much I paid and noticied that Batman Grendal was not listed at all. When he said it was a crime I thought he was joking but he evidently took it literally and that floored me. This was my first time to the shop so it's not like he owed me or anything so it really blew me away. Except for back issues, I've been nearly 100% digital for three years now but I'm thinking that might change now. He probably threw it in because you bought so much other stuff. Smart move on his part. Good to see shop owners that know how to make the customer happy, like the one giving out the Essentials on FCBD.

After spending the last week or so very sad that I had lost this forums (and was very sad to see that the new CBR forums just lost their charm), I found you guys! Hooorraay!
Very excited to be back so here are some purchases. The Giant Size books always seem tough to fin without major damage to the spines but these two were in solid mid grade or better shape. Also, the Punisher issue was a great snag as I love that series and it always seems to go for so much online (I only paid $5 for issues 2 and 4, issue 4 is pictured).

Not quite classic comics, but classic comic covers done in metal. I picked up these two cover reproductions (Thor #160 & Brave & the Bold #28) today at Hobby Lobby, and placed them next to a normal comic for scale. They are made of metal, like a street sign, but contoured so for instance the JLA members rise up of the surface. Now I just need to figure out where to hang them, office or comic room or one in each... They were 50% off as part of Hobby Lobby's metal decor sale, and they had other options, took me a while to settle on these 2. Other options were Batman #1, Superman #1, GS X-Men #1, FF #1 (which I think I saw in Miss Fantastic's FF shrine pics), Iron Man #44, a Wonder Woman cover, a Flash Gordon cover, and the oddball of the group Detective 585 (I think, a Breyfogle cover the only post Bronze Age cover in the group). They had some signs that were just character portraits, and the S symbol of Superman as well, but I preferred the cover reproductions. -M

Also, I posted in the old forums about my Detective Comics purchases but wanted to post this one. Love, love, LOVE this cover! I love Detective Comics from this era. Frank Robbins is writing crazy done-in-one stories. And this is just after the Batgirl storyline where Barbara Gordon gets elected to Congress! (Don Heck art! Yay!)

Just found a VF copy of the long-out-of-print X-Men: From the Ashes TPB for cover price. The Claremont/Paul Smith run is one of my favorites. I have the original issues, but wanted the trade as a reader/lender.

It's weird how far a simple act like that will move you.

Gentlemen and ladies...I am officially JAZZED right now. I just purchased, via a brand new Etsy 'auction' (very first to come up when I did my nightly 'Most Recent' FF item search), what is now my oldest owned GENUINE/NON-REPRINT issue...a copy of FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #1 for ONLY $14!!!! At that price, no, it's obviously not in mint condition, but it is really not anymore worst for wear than my copies of FF #34, Vol. 1 and Annual #3. No way on Earth, in heaven, hell, Subterranea, Throneworld, Atlantis, Latveria, and Planet X was I letting that issue be swiped (which I have no doubt would have been within a day, if not a few hours at that price and in overall decent-good condition). Not quite classic comics, but classic comic covers done in metal. I picked up these two cover reproductions (Thor #160 & Brave & the Bold #28) today at Hobby Lobby, and placed them next to a normal comic for scale. They had some signs that were just character portraits, and the S symbol of Superman as well, but I preferred the cover reproductions. -M Indeed there is a classic FF sign/metal poster in my shrine, M! Although not the FF #1 cover (that's actually a wall cling), the sign was another prize from last year's Mount Airy, NC excursion I mentioned in the FF thread. Noticed a gift shop specializing in novelty signs had a superhero/comic section through its window, went in, and was thrilled they had some FF representation! Funnily enough, my boyfriend, knowing how much of a nut for the FF I am (and got me the FF #1 wall cling as one of several FF Christmas goodies last year), immediately got me the same sign while vacationing in Traverse City, MI a couple of months later. I told him he could keep it, and he happily did so...he's come along quite well as my 'grasshopper' in Fantastic enlightenment (complete with thoroughly enjoying the issues I've given him thus far via the Best of the FF and FF Visionaries: John Byrne Volume One TPBs). Nice finds, BTW, M...I like all of the metal Marvel and DC I've seen in their retro awesomeness.

I had read almost 100 issues of FF before I got to read Annual #1, as the German editions (then published by a German subsidiary of Warner Bros. called Williams Comics) never published any of the Marvel Annuals. It wasn't until I got the first Marvel Masterworks in the early 90s that I got to read that great story.

Traded in a whole bunch of recent stuff including the first print Hawkeye issues I had for credit at Lonestar and just placed an order for the following...
Barry Windsor-Smith Conan Archives Vol. 1 and 2 The Super-Hero Women (Fireside books, the only one of the 4 origins books from Fireside I didn't have) Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #8, 10 (getting closer on that series but a ways to go yet) Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #11-17, 19, 21, 23 (finishes off the series for me) Immortal Iron Fist #21 (last issue needed, thought I had it but realized last week it was not one I owned) Kull the Conqueror/Destroyer #11, 16, 20, 24, 26 (a good chunk of what I needed to complete the series, a few left to go) Marvels Project 5 (I had the rest of the mini and wanted to read it but couldn't find #5 locally) Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter #18 (finishes series for me) Warlord Annual 6 (last annual I needed for original Warlord series, still have a handful of post-100 issues to get) Warlord (2009 series by Grell) #8, 10-12, 15, 16 (finishes off series for me) X-Men vs. Agent of Atlas #2 (finishes mini, was only Agents of Atlas issue I didn't have)
will be about a week before they arrive, but I'll post pics when they do...

I wanted to get those BWS Conan archives but I didn't like the production on them. In fact, most of their reprint collections are terrible. If they try to keep the integrity of the old coloring style they end up looking like pixely jpeg scans. If they decide to recolor them they completely change the tone of the comic itself (as in the case of the Conan archives).
They're getting better though. If I find a cheap copy of their Green Lama archives I'll definitely be picking it up. They're just the one company that I need to look inside first and see how they'd treated the reprint before I buy.

I hit the Spring Sale at my LCS today. My city's giant Con is in 2 weeks so I spent about half of what I normally do since it takes me a few months to save up for this stuff.
For $200.00 I got the following
Avengers 20-23. These cost $132 for the 4 of them. In very nice VF condition. White pages and everything. The Wally Wood inks look great on the original newsprint.
Savage Sword of Conan - 37 - 42. Really don't like how DeZuniga looks on Buscema's pencils.
All Star Squadron - 11, 16, 25, 28. This gives me 1-56.
Justice League America 208. Completes a cool JLA-JSA 5-parter.
Shogun Warriors 6
