My heart goes out to bert as well. I'm glad Nick could be with him at home in the end; to be with our loved ones as we leave is a true blessing.
Damn, this is such a sad day.

I wanted to let everyone here know that your kind words have gotten back to bert. He had this to share: really appreciate that thread, please pass along my thank you to everyone.  my heart is broken, but at least was successful in granting his last wish: he did NOT want to die in the hospital, he wanted to be home.  this pic is just after he got transported and set up in the living room around 1pm - just look at that smile. He was so happy to be home, and we had a good 9 hours in the house before he started to distress. If I look like I've been crying? well, it's because I had been for almost 5 days straight in the ICU. Feel free to post these pics to that thread if not too morbid. The first one is a few months after we had started seriously dating. In the 2nd one That's his best work friend (or his PIC - partner in Crime), Jill with us. She was with us all day, and even spent the night with me, so I wasn't alone and so therefore was with us when he passed. which was exactly what he would have wanted. Both of us holding his hands. heartbroken, but happy that he was home. bert |
