The feeling that Kamandi was jumping on the POTA bandwagon isn't helped by the cover to the first issue. Fortunately, the actual series offers much more than this cover promised. As always, Kirby was operating on a different level than his editors and the rest of the field.

While some of that is true. Other than being asked to do a POTA type book, (a movie he said ha had not seen) all the specifics were pure Kirby.

One of the worst Red Menaces, the team of Poison Ivan and Hotsky Trotski

I wonder if that was Simon or Kirby who came up with those?

One of the worst Red Menaces, the team of Poison Ivan and Hotsky Trotski Hahaha I had to look those up to make sure they were real. "Poison Ivan" is rather clever though.

I'm sorely tempted to change my username to "Hotsky Trotski".

Kamandi wasn't a book that Kirby wanted to do, so I don't see how it could have existed without Planet of the Apes The Demon was kind of like that too, which I find strange considering that it's bristling with intense ideas. Carmine wanted a horror book, so Kirby just rolled up his sleeves and went to work

I'm sorely tempted to change my username to "Hotsky Trotski". I'm pretty sure in an early Marvel, Iron Man or somebody refers to one of their "red" enemies as a hotsky-trotski

There was also You Fattas Moustache, and, my favorite, Rhode Island Red. Fighting American is pure fun, after they give up on serious. Kirby was really good at humor, when you look at some of those books, beyond the action. Even the much maligned Dingbats of Danger Street has some pretty funny visuals.

There was a mid-90s villain, don't recall his name and which title he popped up but pretty sure it was a Marvel. His very first appearence was on the splash page of the story. He was the ultimate yuppie executive in an expensive business suit and always talking into his huge old school cell phone. He was just walking, but up in the air a few floors elevated between office buildings. His storyline went on for a few issues, he was some sort of mastermind, not sure if it was revealed he had powers beyond walking in the air, giving orders. Evil Yuppie was certainly a product of his time.

I only read that issue, not the various JL*s that followed, but I thought the idea was kind of interesting. I believe he was sort of a scout for another power.
Yeah, he was sent to scout worlds and prepare them for invasion. He used Hector Hammond to wipe the world's memory of the Justice League.

Yes, that looks like the guy. Thought it was a Marvel character. Tried researching for it but thinking Marvel got me nowhere. The first issues he was in,I believe he wore a plain business suit, not cosmic looking. Thanks for the clarification
