When we all tuned in to watch Hulk Hogan VS Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III, we wanted to see a conclusive ending. As commentator Jesse Ventura said, “I do not want this match to end in a count-out.” No wrestling fan enjoys ties. We wouldn’t all fondly remember WrestleMania III if Hogan/Andre had ended in a draw, right?
I don't know about you, but I always liked WrestleMania better whenever the giant emperor penguin would show up to thunderous applause... you never knew who was going to win at that point.  The penguin's lack of shoulders made it awfully hard to pin to the mat. My favorite move of the wrestling penguin was its judicious use of a flipper slap to his unknowing opponent's back... because it couldn't hold a folding chair, Of course.

André the giant, known in Québec as Jean Ferré when he was wrestling here in the early '70s. I met him once in a restaurant, and since I was, like, seven or eight years old, he really looked like a giant!

Wait a minute! The guy from the Princess Bride was a wrestler?! André the giant, known in Québec as Jean Ferré when he was wrestling here in the early '70s. I met him once in a restaurant, and since I was, like, seven or eight years old, he really looked like a giant!
I watched a good amount of wrestling as a kid, but I swear the ONLY moment I remember from all that watching was a segment where Mean Gene took Andre shoe shopping... |
