Super Cops #1-and-only, July 1974. Cover by Gray Morrow. This is not a DC comic but in the lower left you can see two characters wearing t-shirts with the Batman logo, which they colored red for plausible deniability. The real-life cops who this was based on were nicknamed "Batman and Robin" but the shirts on the cover are the only reference to that.

^ and I will say I was so torn this week too. . . as there are *excellent* options in Metal Men and in LSH. . . but both of them had minor issues (coloring, and lack of much background respectively). . and just didn't have the emotional memory hook of seeing this on the stands, and me buying it - even tho I knew the Super Friends comic was targeted towards younger readers than myself.

The Spirit #155 Art by Eisner From during the war, so I'm gonna say Lou Fine on the art.

If the Science Police count, I just thought of a S&LSH cover from my youth.

It's beautiful, but the lack of background and personal emotional attachment to it is why i didn't use. go for it!
