From that unforgettable title to the moustache to the Bat-Horse to the serape and the whip, not to mention El Papagayo and his sidecick, Toto the parrot, every page of this made me smile when I firts read it in a Batman Annual. It was years till I saw the cover, but the wait was worth it, as it lived up to the high standards of the story. Man, I need that Bat-Hombre comic!

Young Alexander, faced with Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the Underworld.... ...from Epicurus the Sage. From Eddie Campbell's Bacchus.... (Oh, if only that had happened, though I heard Jeff Smith almost did that to Dave Sim).

Avengers #239 has a lot of moments for me. Not the first time a light-hearted issue was ever done, but this one hit me the right way back in the day. Letterman was new and what the "cool younger crowd" was watching back then, and to see a whole issue of Avengers in this setting brought a lot of smiles! This image of Black Widow bouncing around cracked me up: Hawkeye, who had just substantially lost his hearing, trying to anticipate David's questions from memory with a straight face and getting it wrong (and Dave's reaction!): And finally a shot of the band, which brings an extra smile to me because they actually captured the late great Hiram Bullock on guitar who was with them during the early days (though a terrible attempt at drawing a guitar) with his trademark bare feet. Love Paul Schaffer sporting the Captain America t-shirt as well.

Young Alexander, faced with Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the Underworld.... ...from Epicurus the Sage. Epicurus is woefully unknown. It's also an eye-opener for people who only know Sam Kieth from his superhero stuff.

It's also an eye-opener for people who only know Sam Kieth from his superhero stuff. I had been cold to most of the Piranha Press offerings, up to that point; but, I knew Epicurus was for me the moment I saw it. Brilliantly funny satire of Greek philosophy and mythology, mixed with great character humor and visual gags. Keith I knew from Sandman and loved what I was seeing. It was this that actually got me to try The Maxx, when he launched it, and to stick with it until it started to make more sense. Book 2 is a scream, as well, as they encounter the lovers of Zeus. Love the scene where Epicurus and Plato prank the Pythagoreans with fake numbers, as they try to recite Pi. It is criminal that William Messner-Loebs stopped being employed in the comics industry.

From Top 10 #9.... Check out the mice........ My favorite is the Danger Mouse tribute! From issue #2...... For context, Girl 1 (the purple lady) wears no clothes, but her synthetic skin generates pigments that cover her anatomy. Dogs, being color blind, would not see the pigments and would see her actual body, underneath.. From issue #7, the Sarge without his exo-skeleton.... The identity of the "Ghostly Goose" revealed, in issue #7..... Think Plastic Man and consider the context of the situation.
