I'm almost positive Bruce knew of the wonderful book and series, "Lonesome Dove," and reading over his posts and the reactions of this community made me think of the epitaph Larry McMurtry essentially lifted from that of an actual Black cowboy named Bose Ikard and used for one of his characters .
I think literally and metaphorically it captures Bruce's steadfast character. Especially the line "cheerful in all weathers."
And this portrayal comes as close as I can get to expressing the mixture of sadness and disbelief I've been experiencing since reading about Bruce's untimely death.
Pea Eye Parker: "What's it read, Gus?"
Gus McCrae: It says, "'Josh Deets. Served with me 30 years. Fought In 21 engagements with the Comanche and the Kiowa. Cheerful in all weathers. Never shirked a task. Splendid behavior.'
That's what it says."

Such terrible news. I greatly enjoyed his friendly and informative posts and will miss seeing his moniker and avatar next to a comment. My sympathies to his family.

I haven't virtually known him as most of the rest of you guys, but he was such a friendly soul and will be missed.

I am a new member so do not know the other posters here very well yet, but he was the first member to reply to my first post here in the introduction thread and he was very kind and welcoming. That first response of his put me at ease and I really appreciated it. Here it was:

I’m mostly an on-and-off lurker never fully engaging as much as I plan to, but still feel connected to you all. But Bruce always stood out for his posts and generously liking or quoting my rare posts. Every time I visited I knew I’d see his name. Prayers for his family and those close to him.
We lose people occasionally at the main forum I hang out at, and it hurts. I think you have to be in an online community like this to understand, but the bonds and friendships can be just as real as real life.

Very sad to hear about this.
I would always click in when his name popped up on a thread.
Very knowledgeable, insightful and upbeat about comics and the like.
He will be missed.

Just saw this news and... just wow. So awful. I don't get to spend as much time on these boards as I'd like to, but my eyes are always drawn to his threads. He was always so engaging and seeing his name meant quality conversation was to be had.

Awful news. It's odd to me that forums such as these (few as they are) have to compete with Facebook groups serving similar niches. Brutalis' continued presence here through close to 8500 posts all either building or cementing a clearer picture of a real, flesh and blood guy is pretty much the perfect argument for why this community feels so right. It'll be strange seeing his posts pop up when re-reading old threads in the future, but at least they'll exist as a sort of eternal testament to how much he enjoyed the things he did.

Shaxper has suggested to me that we have a zoom meeting this Sunday as a memorial to Bruce. 130 est. even if you can only pop in for a few minutes, stop and say high. He was a big promoter of the meeting and never missed them.

This has made me think. My wife knows I frequent these boards and have some online "friends" on these. But I doubt that if anything happened to me she would know where to post or even think about it. I would just disappear from the Forums. Nobody here knows me IRL or has contact outside of the forum. Maybe I should think about leaving instructions.

I often do wonder if we have lost any members in this way, though. I especially worry that this is what happened to @mechagodzilla. We know he was older and had health issues. Someone deleted his account, but that doesn't mean it was him.
