Who knew that a throw away parody character from this book would become a major comic book star.

Favs? Well Kingpin does not appear on the cover but I cannot imagine a better book to have him appear in...you get the striking cover PLUS the surprise of a great new villain which makes this book work on all accounts Moon Knight's first appearance is another I love and I also love how they went with the bluish/purple colours when releasing his first solo series issue too.

A feisty, confident Supergirl emerging full-grown like Athene from the head of Zeus hurling a challenge at Superman. If only that had been the Supergirl we'd see after that. You don't see any of the title characters, but how can anyone resist buying this comic? It doesn't get better than this ominous cover... Or this... PS: Yes, I know Enemy Ace had already appeared in three issues of OAAW, but he'd never appeared on a cover before this. I think this captures the spirit of what Icctrombone is intending here.

Another favorite of mine, Black Panther debuts in FF #52 getting the spotlight on the cover... -M

Nick Cardy creates an atmosphere of dread and mystery for three characters who, AFAIK, have never ever reappeared. (Love the spotting of the reds and yellows in the fog.)

Black Widow had some pretty decent first appearance covers; the cover to Tales of Suspense #52, her actual first appearance, is overall pretty good: Of course, that was when she was an evil, commie femme fatale. The introduction of her 'new look' in ASM #86, also the model for the MCU look familiar to the wider movie-going public, features a pretty damn awesome cover:

That nice Black Widow cover reminded me right away of the first appearance of the Blockbuster. Not a major villain, but an impressive cover, nevertheless.

This one blew my 11-year old mind when it came out. On one hand, I was upset...this is NOT Thor! But it looked SO freaking COOL!

I love the Bat-Squad and included them in a UK-based fanfic team I wrote. They totally ought to have appeared in Batman, Inc.

Red Sonja's first appearance is hidden behind this cover... ...which is a pretty solid cover, but doesn't hold a candle to the cover of her second appearance:

Isn't that Banshee? I think Arcade's first appearance was in Marvel Team-Up #65. Yes, it is Banshee; he and all the X-Men were hypnotized by Mesmero and turned into carnies. Arcade would first appear on an X-Men cover with issue #123, which I remember not buying when I saw it in the Ontario town of Gananoque during a camping trip with my parents. The reason? I had no money left! (Oh, the indignity). I learned something.
I've always seen this at cons tagged 1st appearance Arcade, since he's dressed just like him.

The first appearance of Weapon Alpha/Vindicator/Guardian/whatever else he may have been called in X-men #109 featured a suitably dramatic and solid, action-packed cover: However, for me, nothing beats the first appearance of Alpha Flight in X-men #120... ...where only a few team members in the foreground only appear almost in shadowy silhouette. And I liked how in the issue itself, none of them - except Vindicator - are fully revealed, but rather just sort of teased. It was really great build-up - and since it was my first-ever issue of X-men, I was immediately hooked.

Avengers Annual #10's cover wasn't very impressive - by Al Milgrom not Michael Golden and only a tiny head shot of Rogue.

Technically, not a first appearance, but a character who was probably new to 98% of readers: Martian Manhunter got skunked on his first appearance: But Elongated Man got a nice cover (though as a bad guy):
