I knew him from not only his comics writing, as well as his heavy involvement in the launching of Milestone at DC. but also I had his album since stumbled on it in early 80's - and i was nerdy enough to recognize it as the Marvel Comics building address on the cover (and it was a quarter). (if you're not aware, Priest/Owsley had another name he went by: "Hollis Stone") Some fine funk:
Wait up....this is totally new to me...Priest is a musician too? yup. he's done a couple of solo albums (tho only the 1st under his pseudonym is funk) . he tends to do more Gospel stuff. .which makes sense as he's a Minister, I believe. he's also produced quite a few folks.

I knew he was a Minister, I actually heard him talk about his faith not that long ago and it was really inciteful, so I can totally see him doing gospel but funk sounds like it'd be a lot of fun. I'm definitely going to have to check that out now. Just blows my mind how creative and vast his work is.

His stint on Conan the barbarian saved the title for me in the '80s. Much respect.

I had never heard of him until the Nolan film came out and I'm a pretty well read sci-fi guy. Loved his stuff since I found Indoctrinaire in my local library when I was in my teens. I actually read Indoctrinaire because I assumed it was the same Priest.. it was quickly clear it was not. I don't really remember it much other than that, though.

He should never have taken the name of well known British SF writer Christopher Priest. I presume he did it out of ignorance, but he should have dropped it as soon as he was made aware that it was the name of an established author, no matter how obscure he might have mistakenly thought that person's work to be. How could anyone think Christopher Priest was "obscure"?
As Slam_Bradley said, it seems to be a US thing. I haven't actually read anything of his yet - so I'm not complaining just because he happens to be a personal favourite or anything like that - but I've been aware of him since my teenage years, since his books were on the shelves in my part of Canada. I should be getting to a few of his earlier books soon, as I continue filling in some of the holes in my SF reading.
