From the day I saw the cover of the first race when it originally came out, it's bugged me that they screwed up the word balloons on the cover.

Post-Crisis, wasn't Flash (Wally) limited to the speed of sound? How long did that last?

A friend of mine read a book once called "The Physics of Super-heroes", or something liike that. I wonder if they talked about super-speed at all? Apart from the relativistic effects mentioned by Supercat, I always feel like the speedsters would have to enjoy some level of invulnerablilty or they would kill themselves the first time they collided with something at top speed.

Wasn't there something about an object having infinite mass if it reached light speed? Flash could cause the formation of a back hole trying to stop a bank robber!!! We need a superhero activity control act, quick!

Post-Crisis, wasn't Flash (Wally) limited to the speed of sound? How long did that last? The Flash #78 - Fellow speedster, Max Mercury, theorizes that Wally's reduced speed is psychological not physical, and lies in the fact that Wally is afraid of replacing Barry Allen as the Fastest Man Alive. The Flash #79 - Wally admits that Max Mercury was right about his theory. He fights with Professor Zoom (who had been impersonating Barry) and overcomes this fear. From this point on Wally can move faster than the speed of sound, but is still below light speed.

BTW, seeing Wonder Woman in the sampled panels above - wasn't she given the speed of Mercury along with her other gifts from the gods? Or am I thinking of another character - Shazam/Captain Marvel, perhaps?

No question, Flash. He is speed personified.
Besides, Superman isn't used to running, what with all that flying around stuff.

And why does Supes run with his cape on?
No athlete doing a 100m or 200m dash does that.
Super show-off, that's what he is.

Good point, I think wearing his jockey shorts outside his tights is bound to slow Superman down a few nano-seconds too. So Flash wins because he has a more functional and also more cool-looking costume.

She's swifter than Mercury. Diana is meant to be stronger and faster than any man, equal to any woman. These are ideas that didn't transition over after Marston's death.

Based on what you've commented on thus far - two Kirby threads, Astro City, and this - you'll fit in well here. Kirby and Astro City are two of my favorites.
