Thanks again, everyone and so sorry for the delay! Birthday boy Prince Hal posted a scary Black Magic cover in another thread, and that's the inspiration for this topic: Kirby's 1950s covers. Post a Kirby-illustrated cover from the 1950s; it should be cover-dated and/or on sale in the 1950s. Check out Mike's or the GCD if you have a question about a comic's date. The rules: -Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. - Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before May 31, 2011. Well, for this particular week's contest the comic's on sale and/or cover date must be in the 1950s. -Please include also the title of the comic and the issue number in case some posters cannot see your image. -Covers must be posted before voting begins. -Voting takes place on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, beginning at 12:01am PST and ending at 11:59am PST. -Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most. Try to put your vote in bold. -The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. -The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. -If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; please don't post disparaging remarks about it. - For this week's contest: If a cover is not from the 1950s, kindly point it out to the poster, who then can choose an alternate before voting begins. My cover is this one, Black Magic #16 (also known as v. 2, #10), from 1952. I love this cover and have mentioned here (and elsewhere) how much the composition of this cover reminds me of a certain very famous GL/GA cover from 1971. It's in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Anyway, a thrilling cover. I know you'll all find other equally inventive and masterful covers. Have fun everyone!

ok, tho not a Kirby fan (his superhero work) this is right up my alley,as I do love his early comic work. this particular one is a favorite exactly because of that awfully placed text box! Strange World of your Dreams #3 (1952)

Prize Comics Western #83, Sept-Oct 1950. Notice the blurb in the upper right - "Big 52 pages! Don't take less!", which DC used in its ill-fated move in 1971 to larger comics for 25 cents.
