I can’t decide between 1963 and 1964.

ALl IN WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE SCHOOL. Did you ever go a round or two with him?
Gotta watch out for the ol' Rope-a-Dope, otherwise Ali would beat you to the store and snatch up all the new Superman issues.

1972, especially for what Marvel was putting out (although DC was certainly giving us a lot of good stuff... Weird Worlds, Kubert's Tarzan, Kirby's Demon, Wrightson's Swamp Thing were all grade-A treats).
Conan the barbarian had really grown into an amazing title, what with that gorgeous artwork by Barry Smith. Issues #23 and 24 would remain my favourites, I think. The Severin siblings were also firing on all cylinders on Kull the Conqueror.
There were also plenty of titles like Luke Cage, Marvel Spotlight (with Ghost Rider), Warlock, Amazing Adventures (with the now-furry Beast), Creatures on the loose (with Gullivar Jones), Night Nurse (yes! Night Nurse!), Werewolf by Night, Marvel Premiere (with those Lovecraftian Dr. Strange tales)... Not every new concept panned out, but Marvel sure was trying to diversify their output.
Plus, plenty of monster mags and reprints of old Atlas strips or of earlier Marvel comics, superheroes, western and jungle tales. So much diversity to choose from, all for a few dimes and pennies!

I'd have to concur that 1972 and 1979 were both great years for the reasons given above. But I'd ultimately give '79 the advantage for all that comic goodness over at Marvel.

IMHO our favorite years are simply based on our childhood nostalgia.
For me it gets murky because mine is 1986-1987, which as mentioned upthread just so happened to be the years with a load of the best comics ever, and many creators were at their peaks.
Walt Simonson bought almost every Marvel comic from 1965-1971. He eventually realized the stories were being repeated 2-3 times, and he got tired of Marvel and stopped. For DC he liked Blackhawks, Enemy Ace, and titles that didn't last long.

Probably 1972, but definitely some year in the 70s. I am too lazy to look at what comics came out which specific year.
Oops! I see I already answered on the previous page, it's 1971

To piggy back off this what was your favorite time of year to read comics? Mine was always the Fall. I’d go the the spinner rack of the local drug with my friends after school on a Friday. Then I could take home what I bought and plan my weekend around reading. Also if it were a cloudy cold October day my dad couldn’t tell me to get some fresh air and sun. Plus October is my birthday so I was always getting gift certificates to the the LCS. Just a reminder of a simpler time. Late 70s early 80’s but still.

Still can't pick a year which includes a combination of my favourite books of the time, Treasuries, 80 page Dollar comics, 100 page DCs and Egmont pocketbooks produced in the UK.
But definitely the 70s....with less emphasis on 1979....
