Two years ago (has it really been two years?!) in honor of March Madness here in the States, I did a Top Superhero Team Tournament (which the Avengers won easily). This year, with March Madness back, though I’m getting a late start, I decided to do a tournament to decide the top decade between the Big Two, i.e. Marvel and DC.
The first round matchups are just Marvel vs. DC for each decade of the 1940’s through the 2010’s. I’m not quite sure yet how to determine the matchups for the subsequent rounds, though it’s my goal to have the two “best” decades not meet until the finals.
I'll leave each round's polls open for about a week.
This one closes March 11, 6 AM EST.
So which company's output do you like better - 70's Marvel or 70's DC?

A tougher choice than the previous decades, but still not too tough - Marvel.

Marvel by a slight edge. They tried some newer stuff like horror and Kung Fu and black & white magazines. Conan.

Probably Marvel by a hair. But it's been a long time since I've read most of these books. And my favorites were mostly DC.

Marvel Bronze Age books, nuff said. Conan and X~Men alone give them the win.

Definitely going with Marvel for my favorite comics-decade, the 1970s.

Marvel was heads above DC at this time in providing new cutting edge outlets in comics for fans with black/white magazines, new series concepts, new young writers/artists, stepping into the genre's of cosmic, horror, fantasy, sword/sorcery and licensing ERB, REH, POA, Star Wars, toys like ROM and Micronauts.

Marvel, by a longshot; but, not entirely. I have a lot of favorite 70s DC, like Warlord, the Englehart/Rogers Batman, Cary Bates and Elliot Maggin Superman, Jonah Hex, Unknown Soldier, Haunted Tank, Aparo Aquaman, Fleischer & Aparo Spectre, Black Orchid, some JLA stories, Brave & the Bold, The Shadow, Kirby's 4th World.
Still, when I think of favorite Marvel stuff, it is all from the 70s: Gerber Defenders, Howard the Duck and Guardians of the Galaxy, Marv Wolfman Daredevil, X-Men, Englehart Captain America and Avengers, MTU and MTIO, Killraven, Master of Kung Fu, Deathlok, Black Goliath (I love the big lug), Spider Woman (the early issues), Kirby's Eternals, his gonzo Cap, Star Wars (best stuff is pre-Empire, in my opinion), Logan's Run, Starlin Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock, Spidey Super Stories, What If?, Conan, .........

This was maybe the hardest one for me. Marvel's superhero output in the 70's is a billion times better than DC's. But DC had a ton of great genre books that I absolutely love from this period. I voted for Marvel in a squeaker, but it was splitting hairs.

I'm going with DC. Cosmic Marvel never clicked with me like Wrightson's Swamp Thing, Kaluta's Shadow, the mystery books, Kamandi... The word "ossify" always comes to my mind whenever I think of 70s superhero books, though I could always pick up a Batman title and be reasonably satisfied.

Marvel.
Dc wasn't bad, but Marvel was exploding with new ideas and creativity. Master of Kung Fu, Tomb of Dracula were excellent and the duo of John Byrne and George Perez dominated the comic scene.
