Two years ago (has it really been two years?!) in honor of March Madness here in the States, I did a Top Superhero Team Tournament (which the Avengers won easily). This year, with March Madness back, though I’m getting a late start, I decided to do a tournament to decide the top decade between the Big Two, i.e. Marvel and DC.
The first round matchups are just Marvel vs. DC for each decade of the 1940’s through the 2010’s. I’m not quite sure yet how to determine the matchups for the subsequent rounds, though it’s my goal to have the two “best” decades not meet until the finals.
I’ve skipped the 1930’s since there’s not much there, just 1938 and 1939 really, and for Marvel especially there’s not much of a 1930’s, though if you want, you can lump the 1930’s in with the 1940’s (plus this way we've got 16 total decades, which is a perfect number for a single elimination tournament). For that matter, I suppose you can lump 2020 in with the 2010’s, if that can serve as a tie-breaker in your thinking.
As far as DC, my thinking is that 1940’s DC only includes the National (AKA DC) and All-American Comics stuff, not properties that they wouldn’t acquire until decades later, such as Plastic Man, Blue Beetle, and Blackhawks.
I'll leave each round's polls open for about a week. This one closes March 11, 6 AM EST.
So, which do you like better here, 40's DC or 40's Marvel?

This one was pretty easy. DC, of course.

DC by a large margin. DC had such a large roster of heroes that were worth reading.

This one isn't close. DC.

DC of course as essentially what is recognizable as Marvel didn't come along until the 60's. What Timely had was rather odd or sporadic for the most part. DC had many well known and big name heroes.

DC; but, if you had thrown Fawcett and or Quality in there, then it might have been different. Timely got by on Sub-Mariner and captain America, and the Human Torch, to a lesser extent. Then you get into B and C-list pretty quickly. Timely was an imitator and pretty low on the comic food chain back then. They couldn't touch Quality or Fawcett and their superhero stuff wasn't much better (or as good as) than MLJ, apart from the Big 3. Nedor was also putting out better stuff.
