I will gladly second "Black Soul".
I still have two absolute favorites from this era that no one has yet nominated! I sure hope someone will do so by tomorrow...

"Circles." I won't repeat what was written above, but would add that it's placement at the end of the Fantagraphics run helps tie up the first volume of stories really well. (I understand it is redundant to re-nominate)
With that, first nomination is:"Gen's Story" was the second part to that whole end of Fantagraphics period that I've always thought was exceptional among a long series of exceptional stories. Themes of forgiveness, empathy and the whole "you can never go home" atmosphere of these two arcs is still deeply moving.
Second, "Hannya" (No.25). . . because it's the first copy I bought new off the shelf! Also, I think she was one of the creepiest monsters Usagi has fought.
Lastly, "Shades of Green." What a great name to start a color series with a new publisher! I remember picking these up as they came out, and those shiny new covers made a real impression. I may have missed the B/W and been happy to see it return with the DH run, but these 16 issues, starting here, were a real treat.

Okay, okay, you twisted my arm and made me feel guilty  . Here are my nominations.... for no other reason than to at least get some nominations in there. (v.1) #27: " My Lord's Daughter" - reason: there are monsters in it. (v.1) #33: " Broken Ritual" - reason: there is a ghost in it. (v.3) #25: "Momo-Usagi-Taro" - reason: my inu is named Momo - Oh shoot!  This story was already nominated. I'll be back with another choice.... hang tight!
(v.3) #31: " The Inn on Moon Shadow Hill" - reason: there are monsters in it. If you haven't guessed, I like Yokai. |

Okay, okay, you twisted my arm and made me feel guilty . Not the super power I'd hoped for, but I'll take it  "The Bridge" (Usagi vol. 1 #25) has always been my favorite evil monster tale, but that might also be because it was the first Usagi story I ever read. |
