I finished the month with an even 60. That's my goal, to average reading 2 issues a day. As I mentioned in another post, I'm reading comics in a method that simulates getting them from new from a comics shop. Example- I will read Starman then JLA then Nexus etc until I get back to the next Starman issue. Something about it inspires my interest and I don't get bogged down by too many of any run in a row. At the halfway point in the year I have read 366. I'm hoping to get to 1000 books read. I'm off the pace Life intrudes , I guess.
Highlights of the month
Gunhawks- I read the first 3 issues and I really have been enjoying them. I'm not a big western fan but this series has an arc that ends with #7. It's a 7 issue series.
JLA( 1987)1-5
The Giffen /De Mattias/Mcgiure series from the late 80's starts out interesting with the Guy Gardner / Batman clash and it's captured nicely by the Mcguire art. Al Gordon's inks combine to draw an especially nice Dr. Fate. I'm not a fan of the one liners , so I'll see how far I can get.
Nexus 1-5 I have read the first 10 or so issues of this Baron/Rude run and I intend to read the entire 80 issue series before 2022.
Starman
Likewise, I have this entire 80 issue series but have never read past 30 or so. Great Writing/Art combo by Robinson and Tony Harris chronicles the adventures of Jack Knight the son of the original Starman.
Justice League of America 233-243
This is the Infamous Detroit era version and I am trying to give it a chance. Lackluster Chuck Patton artwork is a slog to get through.

Xenozoic was definitely my highlight for the month... I just wish there was more of it. Didn't read too much other classic stuff, mostly my pull list and a couple recent trades.

Only 50 some odd books this month for me, most if it more current stuff except for TMNT #1 and the third Usagi Saga edition. Like pretty much everything I read, so not complaining.

257 issues this month. That's a passel. Complete re-reads of Preacher, Criminal and The Fade Out. And a bunch of (mostly) cool newer stuff.

I noticed you're reading Nottingham... what do you think of it? I’m liking it well enough to keep reading it. I’m something of a sucker for anything that’s in a historical setting. And I like the inversion of the Robin Hood tropes. My biggest complaint is that I don’t love the art.

yeah, agreed... it's a weird style. I kinda liked it at first, but as the series has worn on either it's got more stylized, or I just got sick of it and like it less.

I'm over 200 comics for the year. I need to have my phone in my hand to update my list on the site. I probably read about 25 or so for the month.
Marv Wolfman's run on Daredevil (read some back in the 80s...didn't really remember much about them though.) Brian Wood's run on Conan (first time read) Conan: The Hour of the Dragon TBP (first time together like this...) few issues of The Defenders
The Hour of the Dragon I remember as a kid having the two Savage Sword issues then finding the issue before and not realizing it came from the Giant Sized stories (probably was in the mail notes but did not catch it). Back then you had to dig on stuff sometimes realize this as you did not have a cell phone and a search engine on hand.

Almost hit a hundred issues read in June (although by page count it may have been more).
I've been working hard to try and get closer to being caught up on a lot of my monthly books. I don't know if I got much closer, but maybe a little bit.

Read a lot in July, about 130 issues worth.
Highlights include Usagi Yojimbo, Die, Eastman/Laird Turtle, Jetta, Teen Queen of the Galaxy and Amiculus.
Nothing I would consider a lowlight, just stuff I really enjoyed vs. stuff that I enjoyed. Out of all of that though, there was only one super-hero book, an issues of Batman/Scooby-Doo Mysteries.

Recap of July I read 112 comics which is my high count for 2021 On the strength of digital reading. I re-subscribed to comixology unlimited and was able to get to some non Marvel comics. Highlights: On the strength of the Crimebuster and Slam_Bradley podcast I tried Sandman Mystery Theater. I read the first 16 issues and found it to be very good , although the Guy Davis artwork takes some getting used to. I continued my reading of the JLI bwahaha era. So far it's okay but it annoys me that Blue Beetle seems to be somewhat stupid while he's trying to be the jokester. The JL Detroit era is beginning become a chore to read with the 5 that I've read. I'm determined to finish the series this month. I read Nexus 6-10 and It's just a really good book. I'm not sure how much longer artist Steve Rude is going to be on the book, I think it's still for 10 or more issues. Low Lights I read a Millennium edition of All Star comics #8 and remembered why I didn't like those Golden Age JSA stories. They never acted together in this story. They all had chapters where they were individually addressing the problem. It's only until the end that they unite. I like a team book to actually be a TEAM book. I read a Marvel Crossover called Realm of Kings and , yikes , was it crappy. It crossed over Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy and other mini series involving the Inhuman's and the Imperial Guard. I'm glad I missed it the first time. I happened to run across Jim Balents Tarot comic book. I wasn't aware that he was still publishing that book. The " Boob " book was really terrible.

I think I set a new record in July reading only three books for the entire month, and I believe I read two of those on July 1st. After that, Owen got sick, and life has been disrupted ever since. Here's hoping for a return to normal sometime in August.

After finishing up Wood's run on Dark Horse's Conan, I decided to go back and start re-reading Marvel's Conan from the start and got through the first 37 issues in July. I wanted to re-read the Belit issues but love Roy's Conan so just started over even though I had read the first 50 or so the year before. Other than Conan, I finished Wolfman's DD run and most of Shooter's issues.
Gil Kane with some early Klaus Jansen really looks different. Jansen inking Daredevil starts to really bring the gritty style that has been the style of the book really for the most part ever since.
July was the most issues I had read all year in a month. Got sick and sat round for a couple days and read a bunch.

100 comics in August. Second lowest of the year so far. Part of that was getting ready for vacation. Part was uptick in work. Part was just being a bit burnt out.
August will likely be the least since it's the 10th and I've managed one funnybook.
