Damn! How did I miss the discussion of Bogart?
You didn't miss much. We basically just discussed how Stan Lee took credit for all of Bogart's comic character creations and story ideas, and how Martin Goodman was miffed at the movie studios for not making Chip Goodman the next Bogart.
Nothing new, really.

And a preview of this movie that Tartanphantom watched So Catherine Shell went to the Moon before Space: 1999? I got to see that one... She looked very attractive without that alien makeup.

Yes, before she had sideburns, a widows peak, and warts for eyebrows. Catherine Schell in Space: 1999 was one of the first women I ever had a crush on when I was a little kid...and I'm talking, like, when I was 6 or 7, I guess. Make of that what you will.

Nothing wrong with crushing on Schell in Space 1999. Although I'll admit I preferred the look from her guest appearance in season 1:

Darn, I considered myself a huge Space: 1999 fan back in the '70s, but never noticed Caherine Shell had appeared in the first season!
Of course, in those days, you watched an episode once on TV and that was that.

I think it's interesting, these attractions experienced at such a young age - how do they compare with the more obvious and often more overtly sexual attractions that happen in adolescence and later on, for example? Uhura on Star Trek was a big one for me - I would have been 7 years old when the original series ended - also Crystal in the Kirby/Lee FF comics, among many others.
Catherine Schell's name sounds familiar and I watched Space:1999 when it was on but haven't seen it since then and can't picture her character or recall much else about the show apart from that I liked it at the time.

You may also know Schell from her prominent role in Return of the Pink Panther.

You're right, I recognised her face after looking her up on wikipedia. Very beautiful.

Not to get too off-topic (or wanting to court unnecessary controversy), but I think sexuality in very early childhood is a fascinating subject. Myself, I knew from a very, very early age that I liked women, even though I couldn't articulate why and had no idea what sex was. The earliest vaugely sexual experience I can recall was watching the glamorous, all female dance troupe Legs & Co. on the BBC music show Top of the Pops in 1976 and becoming aroused -- I'd have been just 3 years old. At that age, these things are purely instinctive: you don't know why you're attracted to something or aroused by it, but you definitely know that you are. I've talked about this with a fair few male and female friends over the years, during drunken nights down the pub, including a couple of gay men, and they all admit (after a few drinks) to having had similarly early corresponding sexual experiences at a very young age. My conclusion is that it's incredibly common, though not discussed in polite society. Anyway, I don't want to make anybody feel uncomfortable, so I'll leave it there. It's a bit 'eavy for a comic book forum, after all! Uhura on Star Trek was a big one for me Oh yes...Uhura was a big childhood crush for me too. To be fair, she still is!

I know what you mean. I never went through the "girls are icky" phase. My first crush, or at least the earliest one I remember, was a teenage Bernadette Peters after seeing her on The Jimmy Dean Show. Some three decades later, I had a front row seat at a benefit concert she gave for the Olympia Arts Council, during which she stepped down from the stage and sang directly to me. Talk about your deferred gratification!
Cei-U! Now if I could just meet Shelley Fabares!

Yes. I was reading this whole conversation about her and not knowing any reference to her but recognizing her face. And this is why. It was one of my father's favorite movies and I would always sit down and watch it with him. Became one of my favorite comedy movies of all time too. As far as my first crush, would probably be Diana Rigg as Miss Emma Peel in the Avengers. I watched those episodes on cable at my Grandmother's back in the 80's. One show providing my first crush and my first male role model. Someday I will get me a bowler. And have the courage to wear it.

I know what you mean. I never went through the "girls are icky" phase. I never did either. And really never understood that trope, because I don't really remember any of my friends going through one either.
