AS the bugle sounds The Last Post and the guns fall silent, I am pleased to announce this week's results.
The war is over for this week's winner DupibR, with 5 votes. Trying to win the peace are Farrar and kirby101 in second place with 3 votes each. Enjoying a well-earned furlough in third place are Crimebuster and codystarbuck with 2 votes apiece. And head back to the front with a single vote in their kitbags are bert, brianf, james and foxley (goldbricking as usual).

Congrats to DupibR, that was a powerful cover. And thanks for the second place votes I got. I almost changed to one of these Nam covers. But couldn't make up my mind.

Congrats to DupibR, that was a powerful cover. And thanks for the second place votes I got. I almost changed to one of these Nam covers. But couldn't make up my mind. I believe Doug Murray said he got grief for that first cover, as cat yronwode believed it was a caricature of her. He swore it wasn't; but, the attitude isn't too far off. There was a Vietnam Journal story that I thought of, where Journal is back in the states, with a disabled Special Forces vet, that I thought of; but, the cover depicted something else. As much as I liked The Nam (until they shoehorned the punisher into it), Vietnam Journal was so much better, if for no other reason than it didn't have to conform to the Comics Code. Stories were more raw and it got into other areas, like Air Cav, Special Forces, the Marines, SEALs, gunship crews, CIA shenanigans, the Home front, and more. Lomax was a vet and had lived through it. Murray was, too; but, Golden did not, nor the majority of artists who followed on the series. Wayne Vansant at least did his research (in all his projects).
